Аннотация
Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of Ammonium chloride (AmoklorTM) as zootechnical feed additive for sows. The additive is already authorised for its use in ruminants, cats and dogs, and in sows from the 9th to the 11th week of gestion and from the 15th week of gestations until the first week of lactation. The aim of the current application is to modify the terms of the authorisation in sows to cover the entire gestation and the first week of lactation. The use of the additive ammonium chloride (AmoklorTM) is safe for sows for the newly proposed conditions of use covering the complete gestation period and the first week of lactation, for consumers and for the environment. The additive is not irritant to skin nor a skin sensitiser, but it is considered irritant to eyes and a respiratory sensitiser. Exposure of users via eyes and respiratory tract is considered a risk. The Panel concludes that the additive is efficacious in reducing sows' urinary pH when administered to sows for the entire gestation period and the first week of lactation at the level of 5000 mg of ammonium chloride/kg complete feed.
