OBJECTIVES: To cross-culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Digital and Technological Self-Efficacy Scale (Digitech-S) among nursing students.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey design adopting a three-phase scale validation procedure.
SETTING: Multiple nursing schools in Henan Province, China.
PARTICIPANTS: A total of 928 nursing students of different academic levels took part in this study; an additional subset of 50 students was selected to evaluate test-retest reliability.
OUTCOME MEASURES: Psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Digitech-S were evaluated. Content validity was assessed by an expert panel using the content validity index (CVI). Construct validity was examined using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, and convergent validity was tested via correlation with the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS). Reliability was evaluated by internal consistency (Cronbach’s α), split-half reliability and test–retest reliability using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).
RESULTS: The total mean score of the Chinese Digitech-S was 61.34 (SD=24.50). The scale achieved satisfactory content validity (lCVI=0.959) and presented a single-factor structure accounting for 68.04% of the total variance. Strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.950), split-half reliability (0.928) and test–retest reliability (ICC=0.909) were observed.
CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the Digitech-S exhibits good reliability and validity for measuring self-efficacy regarding digital and technological solutions among Chinese nursing students.
