Аннотация

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate through a scoping review existing literature on menopause training in obstetrics and gynecology residency and obstetrics and gynecology residents' knowledge and comfort managing menopausal patients.

DATA SOURCES: A literature search was conducted September 2025 by a medical librarian across three electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. No date or language restrictions were applied during the initial search. Terms used were residency, menopause, obstetrics and gynecology, menopause resident education, menopause training, competence, retention, and menopause curriculum. A search of ClinicalTrials.gov was not applicable to this topic.

METHODS OF STUDY SELECTION: Two independent reviewers screened the abstracts of 63 unique articles. Eligibility criteria included articles published in English within the past 20 years (2005-2025) that included obstetrics and gynecology residents as a study population and focused on residents' menopause knowledge, comfort caring for menopausal patients, or educational interventions and associated changes in knowledge or comfort.

TABULATION INTEGRATION AND

RESULTS

Nine articles were included in the final review. For each article, the title, authors, year published, main research question, study design, study population, results, and conclusions were collected and put into a table.

CONCLUSION

Obstetrics and gynecology residents report limited knowledge of and comfort with providing menopause care. In practice, menopausal patients report feeling that obstetrics and gynecology clinicians are ill prepared to identify and treat menopausal symptoms. Despite the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) objectives on menopause care, there was limited recent evidence to support improvements in this gap. To address this and to align with programmatic competencies, obstetrics and gynecology program directors and faculty should identify lapses in content within their programs and seek to design, implement, and evaluate educational strategies to align with CREOG objectives on menopause.
