Аннотация
The study analyzed the ratio of maternal mortality due to abortion in the northern region of the country, using a retrospective sectional method with analysis of data from the Mortality Information System, Live Birth System and Hospital Information System. From 2012 to 2022 there were 174 maternal deaths due to abortion in the region, in 106 (61%) cases it was registered as the principal cause and in 68 (39%) it was registered as a cause associated with death. The most prevalent ICD 10 codes as the principal cause of maternal death were unspecified abortion (54.7%) followed by the ICD codes for Spontaneous abortion (18%) and failed abortion attempt (14.1%). Less than 2% of cases were abortions for medical and legal reasons. The socioeconomic profile was women aged 20 to 29 years (45.3%), black (68.8%) and education was between 8 and 11 years of study (40.6). In the COVID-19 pandemic, RMMA increased by 4.27%. The North region is the one with the highest MMR in the country and abortion continues to be one of the main causes of death. The women who die most are young, black, with low education and without a partner, confirming the characteristics that predict death from abortion. The reduction in maternal deaths in the North region and in Brazil continues to be a challenge for public health and a debt society owes to women.
