WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS TOPIC?: Rabies is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by rabies virus infection and was classified as a Class B notifiable infectious disease in China. Events involving multiple victims bitten by a single dog represent a distinct category in rabies epidemiological surveillance and risk assessment. These incidents indicate high-probability point-source exposure to potentially rabid animals and thus pose urgent public health threats.
WHAT IS ADDED BY THIS REPORT?: This study analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of events involving multiple victims bitten by a single dog in Shandong Province in 2025 and evaluated the effectiveness of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) implementation.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE?: This study highlights the severity of events involving multiple victims bitten by a single dog in Shandong Province and validates the effectiveness of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) strategies, providing robust evidence for the formulation of rabies prevention and control strategies.
