[Early infantile nystagmus from the neuropediatric perspective].

The differential diagnostic work-up of (early) infantile nystagmus depends largely on the presence of syndromic or neurological abnormalities, in addition to the child's age and ocular findings. In some cases, a careful medical history and physical examination alone are sufficient to establish a diagnosis. Electrophysiology, imaging, molecular genetics and metabolic diagnostics are further essential components of the neuropediatric part of the problem analysis. This paper aims to provide guidance on how to proceed in a way that is as efficient as possible and as gentle as possible on the child.
