LC-MS/MS enables sensitive quantification of malonic acid (MA), methylmalonic acid (MMA), and ethylmalonic acid (EMA) across clinical matrices. MA provides emerging diagnostic value in metabolic assessments, while MMA remains the primary marker of functional vitamin B12 deficiency. EMA is essential for evaluating mitochondrial and fatty-acid oxidation disorders. Advances in extraction and chromatographic strategies continue to improve analytical performance for these biomarkers.
