Аннотация

Workplace bullying can damage nurses' mental health, professional identity, relationships, psychological safety, and belonging. When these losses are unsupported, the associated grief may become disenfranchised. This discursive paper examines bullying, exclusion, professional undermining, vexatious complaints, and weaponised complaints through a grief-informed lens. It proposes that workplace harm can create losses of trust, reputation, career opportunity, safety, identity, and belonging. Bullying does not inevitably produce grief, but grief may arise when valued aspects of professional life are damaged and may become disenfranchised when colleagues or organisations do not recognise it. This connection has received limited attention in nursing. Organisational responses may compound the harm when nurses are minimised, silenced, isolated, or expected to recover without acknowledgement. A grief-informed response requires listening, validation, psychosocial support, fair processes, protection from retaliation, leadership accountability, and opportunities for restoration. For mental health nursing, this perspective supports non-pathologising assessment, therapeutic acknowledgement, referral, and attention to how workplace grief may intersect with psychological distress, mental ill health, wellbeing, professional functioning, and safe care. It directs attention beyond resilience to organisational conditions that produce or prolong harm. Recognising these losses may strengthen nurses' wellbeing, help-seeking, speaking up, workforce retention, and patient care.
