[The impact of war and armed conflict on maternal, neonatal, and healthcare utilization outcomes].
Аннотация
Armed conflict imposes profound psychological stress and disrupts healthcare systems, placing pregnant women and newborns at particular risk. This review summarizes current evidence regarding the impact of war on maternal and neonatal outcomes, as well as healthcare utilization. Published national cohort studies demonstrate associations between war exposure and increased rates of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, postpartum hemorrhage, and gestational diabetes. Patterns of healthcare utilization shift markedly during wartime, manifesting as reduced routine antenatal and postnatal follow-up. Evacuated and displaced populations appear to represent a distinct high-risk subgroup due to acute disruption of medical and social support. Overall, armed conflict substantially affects maternal and neonatal health, underscoring the need for dedicated preparedness strategies, strengthened continuity of care, and targeted interventions to protect women and newborns during periods of war.
