[Standardization of quality criteria for continuous glucose monitoring systems in Argentina].
Аннотация
Although glycated hemoglobin is the standard method for assessing glycemic control in people with diabetes mellitus (DM), this biomarker does not reflect circadian or daily glycemic variations, which means that episodes of hypoglycemia and/or hyperglycemia -which are associated with acute or chronic microvascular and macrovascular complications of DM- may go unnoticed. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems provide real-time glucose readings, allowing for the identification of trends and fluctuations throughout the day. These devices facilitate treatment decisions to optimize glucose control. Nevertheless, although CGM devices are associated with clinical benefits, limitations are recognized regarding the need for standardization, reliability, and outcomes across diverse populations and clinical settings. Our objective was to adapt the Consensus on Standardization of CGM Parameters for Latin America to Argentina using the ADAPTE method. Eleven of the existing recommendations were adopted with the addition of best practice guidelines; one recommendation was adapted to optimize its applicability; and three additional recommendations were generated based on expert opinion. The recommendations are directed at all members of the healthcare team who care for people with DM, decision-makers and health policy makers, and healthcare system funders, among others.
