Objectives. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are a significant challenge for companies around the globe, including airport environments. Airport studies are limited and have mostly focused on specific occupational groups, particularly baggage handlers, without considering the whole airport community. The aim of this study was to investigate self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms among airport employees across multiple occupational groups. Methods. This cross-sectional study utilized an adapted version of the Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire (NMQ) with a pain intensity scale. The study was open to every airport employee from 35 companies who agreed to participate; 847 participants fulfilled the inclusion criteria. In addition, a focus group with seven health and safety (H&S) practitioners and three one-to-one email interviews were conducted. The qualitative data were analysed through reflexive thematic analysis (RTA). Results. The most common 12-month prevalence rates were for the neck (49.7%), lower back (47.7%) and shoulder pain (45.7%). Additionally, the results showed that females reported higher symptom prevalence and pain intensity than males. Conclusions. Airport employees' well-being may be improved through tailored ergonomic interventions, occupation-specific risk assessments, employee education and occupational health support.
