Аннотация

BACKGROUND

Unilateral epidural hematoma following head injury, causing bilateral blindness, is a rare complication occurring postoperatively, thus determining the outcome of surgery.

CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a rare case of unilateral frontal extradural hematoma that was operated on, and evacuation was performed. Postoperatively, the patient developed bilateral blindness. The patient was evaluated and was found to have a bilateral occipital lobe infarct.

CONCLUSION

We tried to evaluate possible pathological mechanisms of acute posttraumatic cortical blindness. Most of the cases reported previously were associated with cortical blindness as an initial symptom rather than a complication following surgery.
