Diagnosis and management of a rare case of isolated myocysticercosis of biceps brachii muscle: a case report.
Аннотация
INTRODUCTION AND
IMPORTANCE
The parasitic disease cysticercosis is primarily transmitted by consuming food or water contaminated with the eggs of the pork tapeworm). Cysticercosis can affect a variety of organs, most notably the central nervous system, spinal cord, orbit, muscle, subcutaneous tissue, and, in rare circumstances, cardiac muscles. Muscles are the most frequently affected region after the central nervous system. This most commonly occurs in a group of muscles. Isolated swellings are rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-year-old male patient presented with pain and progressive swelling in his left arm. Ultrasonography revealed a solid cyst, indicating myocysticercosis, and surgery was scheduled. The cyst was eliminated via excision, followed by albendazole medication.
CASE DISCUSSION: Through this case report, we highlighted the approaches to therapy of myocysticercosis when the patient came with pain and swelling all over the body, particularly in an endemic location.
CONCLUSIONS
Through this case report we highlight that it is important to consider the possibility of intramuscular cysticercosis, particularly in endemic regions when a patient presents with a swelling on their body.
