Аннотация

Blood rheology and hematology are essential factors in vascular health in diabetic patients. Additionally, in patients with systemic infections, blood characteristics change rapidly, increasing cardiovascular risk. The present study examined the role of immunomodulatory proteins from Calotropis procera latex (CpLP) on blood homeostasis in diabetic mice with disseminated bacterial infection. A virulent strain of Salmonella was used as the infection model. Employing the Bingham fluid model, it was determined that CpLP therapy diminished blood yield stress by 75% and decreased the flow behavior index by 26% in diabetic mice. CpLP also boosted red blood cells (RBCs) count by 1.1%, white blood cells (WBCs) count by 63.7%, and platelets by 54% compared to untreated diabetes controls. These improvements were statistically significant (p < 0.05), confirming the anti-inflammatory response and increased oxygen-carrying capacity of CpLP-treated blood. Overall, the data indicates that CpLP enhances blood fluidity and regulates hematological parameters in hyperglycemia, presenting potential therapeutic implications for the management of diabetic vascular problems. This work provides novel insights into plant latex proteins as prospective medicines in the therapy of diabetes-related cardiovascular problems in infected patients.
