Аннотация
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease, associated with immune reaction between pathogenic bacteria and host. It is characterized by localized reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Increased ROS accumulation leads to oxidative stress that can destruct the periodontal supporting tissues. Therefore, antibacterial, scavenging ROS, reducing the inflammatory response, regulating periodontal microenvironment, and alleviating alveolar bone resorption are effective methods to treat periodontitis. Recently, ROS-responsive polymeric nanoparticles are being explored for their potential in releasing therapeutic agents for periodontitis treatment. This smart delivery method enhances treatment efficacy and pharmacokinetic properties while minimizing potential side effects. This review explores the potential of advanced these nanocarriers, their ROS-sensitive properties, and their potential in improving periodontitis management.
