Аннотация

Despite the government's and numerous organizations' efforts, Opisthorchis viverrini infection continues to prevail. This literature review aims to explore the relationship between socioeconomic and cultural factors and O. viverrini infection, which is a significant contributor to neglected tropical diseases in the Mekong River Basin, including Thailand, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam. This review presents evidence of a positive correlation between lower socioeconomic status and higher O. viverrini infection rates, with specific studies highlighting increased risks among individuals with lower education and income levels. The identification of potential interventions to reduce O. viverrini infection and cholangiocarcinoma risk is a key focus of this review, including health education programs, budget for improved sanitation, and annual mass drug administrations. This review underscores the significant influence of socioeconomic factors on O. viverrini infection in Thailand and emphasizes the necessity of targeted interventions to address these disparities and reduce the public health burdens associated with O. viverrini infection.
