Аннотация

BACKGROUND: Perigastric appendagitis is a rare diagnosis. Clinical presentation can often mimic an acute surgical abdomen and result in invasive and unnecessary procedures. It occurs as a result of the perigastric ligament appendages spontaneously twisting, causing vascular compromise and local fat necrosis. It is typically self-limited, although potential complications include hemorrhagic necrosis, intestinal obstruction, and localized abscess formation.

CASE REPORT: Here we describe a case of perigastric appendagitis that mimicked an acute biliary pathology diagnosed by computed tomography imaging. WHY SHOULD AN EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN BE MADE AWARE OF THIS?: Knowledge of this diagnosis can potentially prevent unnecessary diagnostic testing and surgical intervention.
