The relationships between chronic exposure to wildfire smoke PM2.5 (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter of ≤2.5 μm) and mortality remain poorly understood, with causal evidence being particularly scarce. In this ecological study, we used a doubly robust method, incorporating flexible generalized propensity score estimation that captured potential nonlinearity and interactions among confounders and relaxed the distribution form assumption for exposure, to estimate the effects of annual exposure to wildfire smoke PM2.5 on all-cause and cause-specific mortality in the contiguous United S

Cesium-137 is one of the most concerned radionuclides produced by fission energy, which has a long half-life, considerable biological toxicity and complex transport behaviors. Wet deposition is a key process in determining the atmospheric transport of 137Cs aerosols following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (FDNPP) accident. However, our understanding of this process remains insufficient because of the complex size distributions of the 137Cs aerosols and related atmospheric transport processes. This study investigates the wet deposition behavior of observed 137Cs aerosols by developi

BACKGROUND: Reducing private car use and increasing active travel is essential for transport decarbonisation and addressing public health crises of road traffic injuries, physical inactivity and air pollution. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods have emerged as a key intervention, particularly in London, United Kingdom, to create better environments for walking, wheeling and cycling by restricting through traffic on residential streets. While evidence suggests that Low Traffic Neighbourhoods reduce car use, increase walking and cycling, and improve road safety, their implementation has been politically

INTRODUCTION: Leading government Safety Investigation Authorities (SIAs) that investigate major aviation accidents are members of the International Transportation Safety Association (ITSA). Investigation analysis methodology details are rarely included on SIA websites, in final accident reports, shared with peers, or specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Some 'New View' safety researchers assume SIAs don't use systemic methodologies and that accident investigation has little value. Because of the sensitivity of SIA work and need to prioritize safety value from avai

BACKGROUND: Snowmobile accidents occur in areas that may be difficult to reach by ground Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) vehicles. Helicopter EMS (HEMS) can potentially be useful in these situations, but there are few available data assessing HEMS-associated survival improvement in patients injured in snowmobile accidents. This study evaluates the national trauma database (NTDB) to identify snowmobile-related injury cases to determine if HEMS transport was associated with improved outcome, and whether any improvement in outcome is associated with worse functional status as indicated by dispo

BACKGROUND: It is estimated that 17% of the world's total non-fatal occupational injuries occur in India, leading to severe injuries and absences from work. Despite its magnitude and seriousness, occupational injury remains a neglected public health concern in the country. This systematic review examines the prevalence of and associated risk factors for non-fatal occupational injuries among male workers in India.
METHODOLOGY: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases from 1 November 2023 to 31 December 2023.

PURPOSE: Return-to-work (RTW) following road traffic accidents (RTAs) is essential for better health and financial outcomes. The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) Botswana assists loss-of-income (LOI) claimants with medical assistance, LOI compensation and facilitates RTW. Claimants' experiences affect RTW. This qualitative study investigated barriers to and facilitators of RTW for LOI claimants at the MVAF Botswana.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eleven LOI claimants were purposively sampled and participated in two focus group discussions. They benefited from LOI compensation between 2015 and 2020.

INTRODUCTION: The TraumaRegister DGU® of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (TR-DGU) has been collecting data on seriously injured persons for decades. Based on a few key data points about the accident, far-reaching insights into accident epidemiology can be derived. The present evaluation refers to traffic accident victims, who account for about half of all seriously injured persons in the register.
METHOD: For a 10-year period (2015-2024) information on the accident victims (age, gender), the circumstances of the accident and the time of admission to hospital (date, time) was extracted f

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the strength of the correlation between the studied characteristics describing accident events.
METHODS: Statistical methods were used for the analysis, particularly Pearson's linear correlation analysis. The study was conducted using PQStat v.1.6.8 statistical software. This study present an analysis of occupational activity and causes of accidents in the studied seniority groups, using Pearson's linear correlation analysis. Determining the strength of correlation, rather than causality, allows for the identification of key characteristics of

BackgroundOccupational injuries persist as a significant challenge in high-risk industries, such as aluminum smelting. Despite extensive safety initiatives, injury rates continue to be driven by a complex interplay of organizational and workplace-level factors. A limited understanding of how these multilevel factors hinder the design of effective preventive strategies highlights the need for a deeper investigation.ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the causal mechanisms linking organizational resilience, hazard perception, and occupational well-being to injury occurrence in aluminum smelt

BACKGROUND: Mining accidents are commonly examined through analyses of injury patterns, incident types, and their underlying causes, particularly from technical, mechanical, and operational perspectives, yet the long-term human costs experienced by injured miners and their families remain largely overlooked in both research and policy discourses. This study aimed to document the lived experiences of injured miners in Bangladesh in the aftermath of mining accidents, highlighting their ongoing suffering and struggles, and exploring how these experiences shape their livelihoods, mental well-being

BACKGROUND: Whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) are common injuries from car crashes, with a significant proportion leading to permanent medical impairment (PMI), especially among women and in rear-end impacts. While previous research has shown mixed results regarding work incapacity following WAD, severe cases may lead to long-term health and functional consequences. This study aimed to examine the occurrence of long-term WAD – based on insurance compensation, future PMI, and work incapacity (sickness absence (SA) and disability pension (DP)) among front seat occupants in rear-end crashes, an

OBJECTIVES: Most emergency incidents in Japan occur in residential settings, requiring emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to work in confined indoor spaces. Many EMS personnel report physical strain on the lower back in transporting patients using devices that require lifting, such as tarpaulin stretchers. However, the specific transport methods chosen by EMS personnel and physical burden associated with each method remain unclear. "No Lift" practices, which avoid manual lifting and reduce lumbar strain in healthcare and welfare fields and in Australia, have attracted attention. Some J

Occupational exposure to biological material, particularly needlestick and sharps injuries, is a relevant public health concern in Primary Health Care (PHC), as it combines infectious risk with psychological sequelae that are often underestimated. This study aimed to analyze the occurrence of needlestick and sharps injuries and their psychological impact among PHC professionals, considering biosafety knowledge, vaccination status, postexposure conduct, and perceived availability of psychological support. This was a descriptive, exploratory, mixed-methods study conducted in a medium-sized munic
