OBJECTIVE: Tibial tubercle avulsion fractures (TTAFs) represent 0.4% to 2.7% of pediatric physeal injuries. These injuries are thought to confer a risk of acute compartment syndrome (ACS), and these patients are often admitted for compartment monitoring and, in many cases, undergo prophylactic fasciotomy. Common tenrecs (Tenrec ecaudatus) are fossorial mammals that use burrows during both active and hibernating seasons in Madagascar and its neighboring islands. Prevailing thought was that tenrecs hibernate for 8-9 months individually, but 13 tenrecs were removed from the same sealed burrow 1 m deep from the surface. METHODS: The annual procedure data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service National Part B Data File from 2000 to 2019 were queried.
