Dense121GAN: transfer learning-enhanced conditional generative adversarial network with DenseNet121 for reliable and efficient segmentation in medical and industrial imaging.

Accurate image segmentation in medical and industrial domains remains challenging due to small object sizes, complex textures, and diverse defect morphologies. To address these limitations, we propose Dense121GAN, a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) that integrates a pre-trained DenseNet121 as a frozen encoder. The proposed architecture promotes effective feature reuse and stable information flow through residual skip connections. By leveraging transfer learning, Dense121GAN captures rich hierarchical representations and improves training stability, particularly in data-constra

Aqueous Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization for Water-Soluble Polymer Materials.

Aqueous ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) has been recognized as an environmentally friendly and promising approach for synthesizing water-soluble polymer materials. However, the inevitable decomposition of Grubbs catalysts in aqueous media restricts aqueous ROMP with a low synthetic efficacy and poor control. Over the past few decades, substantial progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms behind catalyst decomposition in aqueous solution. Building on these insights, several advanced aqueous ROMP strategies have been developed, significantly facilitating the preparatio

High-fidelity 180° holographic reproduction: transition from analog Denisyuk to digital CHIMERA methods.

We present a controlled experimental comparison between traditional analog Denisyuk reflection holography and the fourth-generation CHIMERA 180° digital holographic printing system for producing full-color, full-parallax 180° reflection holograms. Using the same object, scale, recording material, and reconstruction geometry, both workflows were evaluated for spatial resolution, parallax continuity, artifact formation, robustness, and practical applicability. The Denisyuk hologram exhibited slightly higher intrinsic spatial resolution, while the CHIMERA hologram produced visually continuous rec

Phase-edge imaging using q-plate shifts for faster and simpler microscopy.

We present a simplified method for isolating the edges of a phase object from the edges of an amplitude object using a 4f system with an off-axis q-plate. Instead of the four off-axis shifts of the q-plate required in previous work, we need only two shifts (along ±x) combined with linear polarizers at 45° and 135°. The number of required mechanical q-plate displacement directions is reduced from four to two. We derive the theoretical basis, showing that the resulting intensity corresponds to the phase gradient squared, with amplitude-object contributions eliminated. Experiments on two phase-am

Physics-driven self-supervised learning for parasitic-fringe suppression in lensless holography.

Parasitic fringes degrade background stability and particle-boundary contrast in lensless holographic reconstruction. In this Letter, we propose a physics-driven self-supervised framework that decouples object-related, smooth-background, and directional parasitic-fringe components within an angular-spectrum forward model. An untrained network parameterizes the object-related complex field as an implicit deep image prior, while physics consistency and component-specific spatial constraints guide the decomposition without paired data. Experiments on simulated and experimental microplastic hologr

Single-shot non-invasive imaging through highly dynamic scattering media via autocorrelation-domain deconvolution.

Imaging through dynamic scattering media remains challenging, because speckle patterns decorrelate during camera exposure. Here, we present a physics-based single-shot non-invasive imaging framework for dynamic scattering media. Enhancing speckle correlation imaging, the dynamically blurred autocorrelation is restored through autocorrelation-domain deconvolution using an analytical blur kernel. The restored autocorrelation is subsequently used for object recovery, with phase retrieval or a physics-informed network under severe degradation. Experimental results on dynamic ground glass and biolo

Single-axis scanning coherent diffractive imaging for spectroscopic and wavefront retrieval.

We present single-axis scanning coherent diffractive imaging (AS-CDI), in which the detector remains fixed while the sample is translated along the optical axis through a spatially evolving probe. The axial evolution of the illumination provides additional redundancy for wavelength-resolved joint reconstruction of the object and the probe from a single scan. We validate the concept by simultaneous spectroscopic imaging and quantitative characterization of the illumination wavefront, from which the chromatic aberration of a broadband field is accurately measured. This capability establishes AS-

High-spatiotemporal-resolution quantitative phase microscopy under unmatched illumination.

Diffraction-based quantitative phase microscopy (QPM) conventionally requires stringent numerical aperture (NA) matching between illumination and objective lens (OL). We propose high-spatiotemporal-resolution QPM under unmatched illumination (HSR-QPM-UI) that fully eliminates this constraint. By introducing a 0.5π phase shift exclusively to the non-scattered components of object waves under symmetric unmatched illumination, we physically encode low-frequency phase information into intensity variations. A rigorous linear forward model and an explicit phase transfer function are derived, enablin

RSReason: Remote Sensing Reasoning Segmentation via Rotation-aware Large Vision-Language Model.

Remote Sensing Referring Expression Segmentation (RSRES) has laid the groundwork for mapping natural language instructions to pixel-level segmentation in remote sensing imagery, where objects frequently occur at diverse scales, dense spatial distributions, and arbitrary orientations. However, existing approaches predominantly rely on explicit, category-driven queries, thereby limiting their ability to reason over spatial relationships, geometric properties, and both commonsense and domain-specific knowledge. To address these challenges, we introduce Remote Sensing Reasoning Segmentation (RSRea

Rethinking cancer survivorship on social media: A phenomenological study of embodiment, online visibility, and the content object-body.

Studies of cancer survivorship and social media have treated survivors as audiences of online cancer content, examining how cancer survivors receive support and information from what others post. This study, in contrast, shifts attention from the consumption of online cancer content to its creation. In this article, we employed a theory-led phenomenological approach to examine how creating cancer content on social media did not merely represent survivorship, but - in participants' accounts - substantially transformed their embodied experience of illness. Drawing on interviews conducted between

Experimental study on microscopic mechanisms of coal deformation and methane adsorption under liquid nitrogen cold soaking.

To explore the influence mechanism of liquid nitrogen treatment on the methane adsorption characteristics and swelling deformation behavior of coal, this study adopts coal samples with different degrees of metamorphism as research objects and conducts isothermal methane adsorption experiments and swelling deformation tests before and after liquid nitrogen cold soaking (LN2-CS). Combining Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (BET), the research shows that compared with the saturated adsorption capacities of the

Anticipating interactions: a predictive diffusion framework for evolving bimanual manipulation.

INTRODUCTION: Bimanual robotic manipulation remains a significant challenge in embodied AI, as it requires synchronized motion planning, inter-arm collision avoidance, and dynamic role allocation over long task horizons. Although existing diffusion-based policies and affordance learning methods have demonstrated considerable capability, they largely treat the environment as static and fail to model how interaction relationships and coordination patterns evolve over time. METHODS: This paper introduces the Predictive Affordance and Coordination Evolution Diffusion Policy (PACE-DP), a unified f

Direct input variables: rethinking the limits of the extended mind hypothesis within predictive processing.

Predictive Processing theories and the Free Energy Principle (FEP) face a dilemma when addressing the problem raised by the Extended Mind Hypothesis (EMH): on the one hand, few can deny that some objects, such as phones, computers, or other people, have a disproportionate role in the reduction of free energy; hence, it is natural to accept that the mind is extended. On the other hand, this seems to go against the carefully built framework in which Markov blankets (MBs) create an evidentiary boundary between the brain and the external environment, thus rejecting the claim that the mind can be e

A variance-guided resampling framework for better K-medoids clustering.

One of the limitations of the k-medoids clustering algorithm is its susceptibility to local optimization and the potential for identical or similar objects to be assigned to different initial clusters. This study proposes ResConeK method, a modification of the block-based k-medoids algorithm that integrates a resampling strategy into the selection of representative object blocks formed according to similar variances. The method is validated using six external clustering criteria-Rand Index, Adjusted Rand Index, Hubert Similarity Statistic, Jaccard Similarity, Fowlkes-Mallows Index, and Rogers-

[The evolution of state support for medical tourism in Russia in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries].

The article is devoted to the analysis of the evolution of state support for medical tourism in Russia in 1990-2015. The object of the research is the state policy in the field of organization and regulation of cross-border consumption of medical services, the subject is the forms, stages and institutional mechanisms of support for medical tourism. It is shown that the period under review represents an independent stage in the formation of Russian policy in this area: from the almost complete absence of special regulation in the 1990s through indirect incentives in the 2000s to the initial ins

A proposal for a 1D-imaging broadband x-ray crystal spectrometer enabled by a sagittally focusing x-ray mirror.

Measurements of x-ray absorption/opacity in ionized plasmas at the National Ignition Facility in experiments with high neutron yields require large detector standoff distances, motivating advances in opacity spectrometer design. We propose a spectrometer in which x rays first reflect from a sagittally focusing mirror with a variable-radius sagittal profile. The mirror sets the sagittal imaging condition so that, after subsequent reflection from a meridionally bent crystal, the x rays form a sagittally focused spectrum at the detector plane. The crystal provides spectral dispersion in the merid

Variational physics-informed ansatz for reconstructing hidden interaction networks from steady states.

Inferring interaction structure from steady-state observations is a central inverse problem when transient trajectories are unavailable. Here, we formulate this problem as simultaneous compatibility of a single interaction operator with equilibrium constraints generated by heterogeneous perturbations. We introduce a variational physics-informed ansatz that represents the unknown operator as a trainable object and minimizes the resulting steady-state residuals across experiments. In the affine-interaction setting, the stacked equilibrium equations yield explicit finite-sample identifiability co

Embodied Sensing for Closed-Loop Manipulation in an Integrated Magnetic Soft Robot.

Precision manipulation of magnetic soft robots holds great promise for applications in complex and confined environments, where a single robot could perform diverse tasks on different target objects. However, existing sensing strategies predominantly emphasize the detection of biophysical or biochemical signals or magnetic field measurements, providing limited insight into robots' internal mechanical behaviors and their interactions with surrounding environments. This gap hinders the realization of high-precision manipulation of robotic systems. Here, we present an integrated magnetic soft rob

Experimental Development of a Radiative Thermal Memristor.

We report the experimental realization of a radiative thermal memristor made of a 200-nm-thick VO2 film exchanging heat by far-field radiation with a heat-flux sensor. This two-terminal device exploits the metal-insulator transition and thermal hysteresis of VO2, exhibiting large emissivity variations and a hysteresis width of 5 K around the mean temperature T0 = 338.7 K. Under low-frequency sinusoidal modulation of the VO2 temperature around T0, we observe a pinched, infinity-shaped Lissajous curve for the heat flux versus temperature difference. From this characteristic curve we extract a hi

Attachment, grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, interpersonal competence, and problematic social media use: A latent profile analysis.

In a cross-sectional study we examined associations between attachment anxiety and avoidance, grandiose narcissism, vulnerable narcissism, interpersonal competence, and problematic social media use (PSMU) in order to enhance the understanding of the characteristics that may contribute to PSMU. Participants (N = 555) were recruited from social media and crowdsourcing apps and completed a self-report online questionnaire. Correlations between variables generally supported previous findings, with the exceptions of the negative association between grandiose narcissism and attachment avoidance, and
