Surveillance camera image dataset for visual classification in criminal investigation research (CCTV cameras).

This data article describes a curated collection of 1421 images of civilian surveillance and security cameras, assembled to support computer vision research on the visual recognition of camera systems in real-world environments. The images were gathered from freely reusable web sources, open image repositories, and manufacturer product pages, and every image was manually reviewed so that each retained file clearly depicts at least one surveillance camera. The collection covers the most common camera form factors, including dome, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ), bullet, fixed box, multi-sensor, and consume

Episodic memory in immersive virtual reality environments: the role of affective context and navigation control.

Memory in immersive virtual reality (VR) may depend on the encoding context and on users' control over virtual exploration. We examined memory for a single immersive episode in 234 young adults using a 2 × 3 between-subjects design crossing navigation control (self-directed vs. automated movement) with affective audiovisual context (pleasant, unpleasant, neutral). Memory was assessed through free recall, visual-feature memory, spatial-location memory, and complementary error indices. One effect held up under Holm correction across the three non-derived memory-performance outcomes. Free recall

Generation of ring-shaped acoustic pressure fields based on the bottle beam concept using airborne ultrasonic phased arrays.

This paper verifies the feasibility of generating acoustic ring beams-defined as ring-shaped, high-pressure distributions localized around a target plane-using an airborne ultrasonic phased array. Physical experiments using a 40 kHz airborne ultrasonic phased array confirmed that the diameter of the proposed acoustic ring beam is much larger than the wavelength. The proposed method is expected to open up possibilities for applications, such as the acoustic cloaking of large objects.

Anthropomorphic Physical Property Comprehension of Robots: Leveraging VLM and Tactile Perception for Robotic Grasping.

In the field of robotic grasping, robots typically employ uniform grasping forces for object manipulation. However, when dealing with soft objects like plastic cups, this consistent force may cause deformation due to their compliant nature. Therefore, adapting grasping forces to different object properties is crucial for maintaining object integrity. With the rapid advancement of vision-language models (VLMs), the ability to deeply understand the characteristics of grasped objects has been significantly enhanced. Building upon this, this paper proposes an Anthropomorphic Physical Property Comp

TCLNet: A Thermal Contrast-Aware Lightweight Network for infrared object detection.

Infrared object detection plays an important role in low-light and complex-environment perception. However, infrared images often exhibit low signal-to-noise ratio, weak target-background contrast, and limited texture information, which can degrade detection performance in small-target and cluttered-background scenarios while making it difficult to balance detection accuracy and model complexity. To address these challenges, this paper proposes TCLNet, a Thermal Contrast-Aware Lightweight Network for infrared object detection. TCLNet introduces a Thermal Contrast Encoder (TCE) to enhance local

YOLO-SOD: Color probability map-based fuzzy framework using deep models for face detection.

Detecting small faces remains challenging due to scale variation and limited discriminative cues at low resolutions. We address this with a two-pronged approach. First, we modify YOLOv5 by adding extra convolutional layers and small-object-focused detection heads that operate on larger, higher-resolution backbone feature maps, improving sensitivity to tiny targets. Second, we introduce a dynamic, image adaptive patching strategy for scale selection. We compute Cr channel color probability maps and measure the number and density of pixel clusters; a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) uses these cues

Controlled numerical generation and reconstruction of off-axis digital holograms with object-specific frequency-domain filtering.

Deep-learning-based holographic reconstruction requires numerical data with reliable ground truth for training and quantitative evaluation. Experimental hologram acquisition and pixel-level phase annotation can be difficult to control, making physically defined numerical cases useful as reproducible benchmarks. Here, three analytically specified phase targets-a smooth Gaussian distribution, a four-level step distribution, and a radially structured Siemens Star-are used to generate off-axis digital holograms with known phase ground truth. A frequency-domain filtering procedure is applied before

DINO-EEG: Montage-Robust Event-Level Seizure Detection in Scalp EEG.

Manual review of long-term clinical electroencephalography (EEG) remains a major bottleneck for large-scale seizure screening in intensive care and epilepsy monitoring settings. Most automated seizure detection methods formulate this task as epoch-level classification, which does not directly provide clinically relevant event boundaries. In addition, many existing systems are sensitive to montage configuration and channel availability, which limits their use in routine clinical practice. We present DINO-EEG, a channel- wise framework for event-level seizure detection in scalp EEG. The method p

UnHOT: Towards simple and unified hyperspectral object tracking.

Hyperspectral object tracking leverages its rich spectral material identification capabilities to address challenges that RGB video alone struggles to overcome, such as camouflaged targets and cluttered backgrounds. However, the high-dimensional spectral data introduces new challenges, including band gaps and substantial data volumes. In contrast to previous inefficient ensemble trackers or band selection methods that discard partial spectral information, this study proposes a simple, efficient, and unified hyperspectral tracking framework named UnHOT. Building upon a base spectral band group,

A Transferable Targeted Adversarial Attack Method Based on Feature Interpretation and Dynamic Optimization.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) are widely applied in critical fields but remain vulnerable to adversarial attacks. Among them, transferable targeted adversarial attacks in black-box scenarios are particularly dangerous, as they can mislead models into predicting specified target labels. Existing methods improve targeted transferability through optimization refinement, input diversity, source-model enhancement, or feature-space perturbation. However, they generally do not exploit interpretation information from a white-box source model (WSM) as iterative feedback to refine global perturbations tow

GAMPoint: Geometry-augmented vision transformer with a multimodal-ready interface for 3D point-cloud segmentation.

Various 3D point cloud semantic segmentation methods have been proposed, yet they remain challenged by limited use of geometric cues and inaccurate predictions around thin structures, object boundaries, and rare classes in cluttered indoor scenes. To address these limitations, we propose GAMPoint, a transformer-based framework for 3D semantic segmentation. Specifically, Enhanced Relative Positional Encoding (EnhancedRPE) augments relative positional modeling with local surface-variation cues to strengthen geometry-aware feature learning. In addition, Conditional Multimodal Gating (CMG) is intr

Towards lightweight coastal litter monitoring: A synergistic deep learning framework integrating efficient architectures with model compression and knowledge distillation.

The pervasive accumulation of anthropogenic litter along global coastlines poses severe threat to marine ecosystems and socio-economic activities. Traditional manual monitoring is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Deep learning based monitoring has emerged as a promising solution, yet was characterized by high computational complexity and large parameter counts, limiting practical application. We propose OceanTrashNet, an efficient framework reduces computational cost and parameter count while preserving high accuracy, which applies three components targeting the scale variation, elongated s

Word Retrieval in the Wild: The Feasibility of an Audio-Based Ecological Momentary Naming Protocol Completed by Adults With and Without Poststroke Aphasia.

PURPOSE: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) involves collecting data regarding behaviors or states of interest repeatedly in individuals' natural environments, typically from a smart device. The feasibility of EMA protocols with people with aphasia (PWA) remains relatively unexplored, particularly for objective assessments of language ability. We assessed the feasibility of a novel, smartwatch-delivered, audio-based ecological momentary naming protocol. METHOD: Fourteen PWA and 13 healthy controls completed a 3-week EMA protocol in which they attempted to name pictured objects delivered vi

Chirality Inherent and Induced: An Algebraic Point of View.

IUPAC defines chirality as a geometric property of an object. Here we discuss a complementary view of chirality in algebraic terms. This enables us to extend its definition from classical to quantum mechanics. We further infer that classical chirality can only be induced in linear combinations of coherences between quantum states. A current motivation for our approach is the ability to induce chirality in an achiral system by a chiral perturbation, most notably an ultrafast light pulse. The stereodynamics of the electrons will vary rapidly with time. Pumping the electronic states of the hydrog

The cellular basis of rapid human face categorization.

Humans readily identify sensory patterns as faces in the environment, yet the neuronal mechanisms underlying rapid face categorization remain unclear. We report the recording of spiking activity inside the face-selective midfusiform gyrus ('Fusiform Face Area', FFA) of 8 human participants to natural images of faces inserted every five stimuli in a fast (6Hz) train of non-face objects. Objective identification of periodic firing rates reveals 81% of visually responsive frequency-tagged neurons (N = 375), with 85% showing significant differential activity between faces and objects (i.e., 6Hz/5

Probing the neural geometry of conscious object perception in time.

Conscious object recognition is a critical brain function, key to making sense of the plethora of visual inputs and guiding adaptive behavior. Yet, the sequence of neural processing underlying conscious object recognition remains unclear. Existing proposals alternatively suggest that conscious object recognition proceeds in a "coarse-to-fine" sequence or a "fine-to-coarse" sequence. Here, we recorded high-density EEG while participants of both sexes performed a threshold-level object recognition task under different viewing conditions. Both superordinate and basic-level category information em

Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Electrochemiluminescence Identification of Latent Fingerprints.

Latent fingerprints (LFPs) are critical evidence in forensic science, yet their identification usually requires specialized visualization methods that are strongly influenced by the properties of the substrates on which they are deposited. Achieving noninvasive and highly reproducible visualization of LFPs remains a significant challenge. Here, we report the visualization of LFPs on graphite paper (GP) using highly surface-sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) imaging. The imaging mechanism relies on the localized electrochemical inertness of lipid residues on fingerprint ridges, which spat

Polymer Surfactants at the Mesoscale: Packaging Liquid Droplets with Ultrathin Sheets and Filaments.

We describe the design of a polymer chemistry and materials platform to fabricate mesoscale polymer surfactant (MPS) structures, as ultrathin filaments and sheets, which exhibit tailored properties in fluids and at fluidic interfaces. By coupling functional polymers with light-triggered chemical transformations and photolithographic methods, these MPS structures were found to segregate to, and assemble at, the interface of oil-in-water droplets. Using cross-linkable, fluorescent polymers, our MPS preparation produced objects of predetermined shapes on Si/SiO2 substrates which, upon release fro
