Impact of Helicopter Vibrations on In-Ear PPG Monitoring for Vital Signs-Mountain Rescue Technology Study (MoReTech).

Pulsoximeters are widely used in the medical care of preclinical patients to evaluate the cardiorespiratory status and monitor basic vital signs, such as pulse rate (PR) and oxygen saturation (SpO2). In many preclinical situations, air transport of the patient by helicopter is necessary. Conventional pulse oximeters, mostly used on the patient's finger, are prone to motion artifacts during transportation. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether simulated helicopter vibration has an impact on the photoplethysmogram (PPG) derived from an in-ear sensor at the external ear canal and whethe

[Corrigendum] Acquired resistance of pancreatic cancer cells to treatment with gemcitabine and HER‑inhibitors is accompanied by increased sensitivity to STAT3 inhibition.

Macrophage pyroptosis mediates vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis (AS). Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) exerts a protective role in preventing inflammation and AS. However, its molecular mechanisms of regulating the pyroptosis signaling pathway and inhibiting macrophage pyroptosis remain unexplored. The present study aimed to determine whether H2S mitigates macrophage pyroptosis by downregulating the pyroptosis signaling pathway and S‑sulfhydrating caspase‑1 under the stimulation of oxidized low‑density lipoprotein (ox‑LDL), a pro‑atherosclerotic factor. Macrophages derived from THP‑1 monocytes

Blue light exposure mitigates vibration noise-induced anxiety by enhancing serotonin levels.

Prolonged exposure to vibration and noisy environments has been shown to contribute to the development of anxiety disorders. Pharmacological interventions are typically not administered during the early stages, which may lead to the uncontrolled progression of anxiety symptoms. In this study, we found that daily exposure to low-frequency vibration for 1 hour significantly increased anxiety-like behavior in zebrafish, with the most pronounced effects observed at 100 Hz. Behavioral analyses demonstrated that exposure to blue light significantly alleviated vibration-induced anxiety. Further physi

The adverse effects of car seats and vibration frequencies on different lumbar intervertebral discs in different age groups.

The prolonged whole-body vibration (WBV) may be one of the important factors contributing to low back pain. This study used a validated whole-body model and the WBV evaluation standard (ISO 2631-5:2018) to investigate the effects of car seat, frequency and age on the risk factors of the lumbar spine during prolonged exposure to WBV. The modal frequencies contributing more to the human resonance were first preliminarily predicted by modal analysis, and then sinusoidal excitations with frequencies of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 Hz were applied for transient analysis. On this basis, the adverse effe

Prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Associated Risk Factors Among Professional Drivers in Chromepet, Chengalpattu District: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background Professional drivers frequently suffer from musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, repetitive movements, and exposure to whole-body vibrations. These factors contribute to pain and discomfort, commonly affecting the shoulders, limbs, back, and neck. Professional drivers are particularly vulnerable because of extended driving hours, exposure to vibration, and awkward postures. The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence and patterns of musculoskeletal morbidity among professional drivers and to identify the factors influencing its occurre

Development of a biofidelic human spine model for vibration characterization.

Vibration is a physical phenomenon that occurs when objects or systems move back and forth rapidly. Millions of people worldwide are affected by vibration-related health issues every year. However, prolonged exposure to vibration can have serious health implications, including back pain, muscle strain, and damage to nerves and blood vessels. While computational modelling studies and tests on dummies have been performed, these do not accurately simulate the structural and material components of the spine, leading to less accurate results. Therefore, this study attempted to develop a biofidelic

Vocal fold fibroblasts and exposure to vibration in vitro: Does sex matter?

Studies have shown that certain vocal fold pathologies are more common in one sex than the other. This is often explained by differences in the composition of the lamina propria and anatomical differences between female and male vocal folds, resulting in e.g. different fundamental frequencies. Here, we investigated a potential sex-specific voice frequency effect in an in vitro setting using vocal fold fibroblasts from one male and one female donor with and without cigarette smoke extract (CSE) addition. After exposure to either male or female vibration frequency with or without CSE, cells and

Force-induced tissue compression alters circulating hormone levels and biomarkers of peripheral vascular and sensorineural dysfunction in an animal model of hand-arm vibration syndrome.

Workers regularly using vibrating hand tools may develop a disorder referred to as hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). HAVS is characterized by cold-induced vasospasms in the hands and fingers that result in blanching of the skin, loss of sensory function, pain, and reductions in manual dexterity. Exposure to vibration induces some of these symptoms. However, the soft tissues of the hands and fingers of workers are compressed as a result of the force generated when a worker grips a tool. The compression of these soft tissues might also contribute to the development of HAVS. The goal of this st

The effects and possible mechanisms of whole-body vibration on cognitive function: A narrative review.

Whole-body vibration (WBV) is a physical stimulation method that transmits mechanical oscillations to the entire body through a vibration platform or device. Biokinetic and epidemiologic studies have shown that prolonged exposure to high-intensity WBV increases health risks, primarily to the lumbar spine and the nervous system connected to it. There is currently insufficient evidence to demonstrate a quantitative relationship between vibration exposure and risk of health effects. The positive effects of WBV on increasing muscle strength and improving balance and flexibility are well known, but

Vibration Emissions Reduce Boar Sperm Quality via Disrupting Its Metabolism.

Artificial insemination (AI) with liquid-preserved semen has recently become common in pig breeding. The semen doses are produced in a centralized manner at the boar stud and then subsequently distributed and transported to sow farms. However, vibration emissions during transportation by logistic vehicles may adversely affect the quality of boar sperm. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the impact of vibration-induced emissions on sperm quality and function under simulated transportation conditions. Each time, ejaculates from all 15 boars were collected and then pooled together to minimize

Can local vibration alter the contribution of persistent inward currents to human motoneuron firing?

The response of spinal motoneurons to synaptic input greatly depends on the activation of persistent inward currents (PICs), which in turn are enhanced by the neuromodulators serotonin and noradrenaline. Local vibration (LV) induces excitatory Ia input onto motoneurons and may alter neuromodulatory inputs. Therefore, we investigated whether LV influences the contribution of PICs to motoneuron firing. This was assessed in voluntary contractions with concurrent, ongoing LV, as well as after a bout of prolonged LV. High-density surface electromyograms (HD-EMG) of the tibialis anterior were record

Concordance between the Stockholm Workshop Scale and the International Consensus Criteria for grading the severity of neurosensory manifestations in hand-arm vibration syndrome in a Swedish clinical setting.

OBJECTIVES: Occupational exposure to vibration using hand-held tools may cause hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). Correct diagnosis and grading of severity are crucial in protecting the individual's health and for workers' compensation claims. The International Consensus Criteria (ICC) has been suggested to replace the widely used Stockholm Workshop Scale (SWS). The aims were to, in a clinical setting, assess the concordance between the SWS and the ICC neurosensory severity grading of vibration injury, and to present the clinical picture according to symptoms, type of affected nerve fibres an

Adding Intermittent Vibration to Varied-intensity Work Intervals: No Extra Benefit.

Varied-intensity work intervals have been shown to induce higher fractions of maximal oxygen uptake during high-intensity interval training compared with constant-intensity work intervals. We assessed whether varied-intensity work intervals combined with intermittent vibration could further increase cyclists' fraction of maximal oxygen uptake to potentially optimise adaptive stimulus. Thirteen cyclists (V̇O2max: 69.7±7.1 ml·kg-1·min-1) underwent a performance assessment and two high-intensity interval training sessions. Both comprised six 5-minute varied-intensity work intervals within which t

Effect of the level of manual performance disability caused by exposure to vibration among sailors working on sailing speed vessels.

BACKGROUND: hand-arm vibration is one of the typical annoying physical factors. Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is a disorder caused by vibrating working tools which vibrate hands beyond the threshold. Long-term HAVS may result in damage to blood vessels, chronic numbness in the fingers, bone injury, and muscular weakness. People are exposed to high-rate noise vibration in a variety of situations, including vessel employment and operating in tiny boats. Moreover, the extant study was conducted to examine manual function disability levels caused by Sailing Speed Vessels (SSV) vibration. MET
