Heat stress (HS) driven by global warming poses a challenge to the productivity and aesthetic value of carnation. To explore the molecular basis of thermotolerance, this study conducted integrated multi-omics analyses under HS, identifying a heat-responsive microRNA, DcmiR172c, whose expression exhibited an inverse relationship with the NAC transcription factor gene DcNAC41. Functional assays suggested that elevated DcmiR172c levels were associated with increased heat-induced membrane peroxidation and photosynthetic damage. Bioinformatic prediction, qRT-PCR analysis, dual-luciferase reporter a

Environmental contamination by heavy metals is a global issue, requiring effective and long-lasting remediation techniques. Pteridophytes are vascular plants that show phytoremediation potential in both gametophytic and sporophytic phases. Pityrogramma calomelanos (L.) of the family Pteridaceae is a fast-growing fern that is used to assess physiological and biochemical responses to short-term lead [Pb(II)] exposure. Pb(II) causes severe developmental, metabolic, and physiological damage in humans, animals, and plants. However, few plant systems mitigate heavy metal content using various modifi

As a result of climate change, increased flooding events have been recorded across the globe. The role of soil microbiomes in soil health and fertility is well recognized, as these microbial communities drive essential processes such as nutrient cycling, organic matter decomposition, and plant health. The composition and function of these communities can be highly sensitive to environmental changes. The aim of this study is to identify the impacts of flooding on soil microbiome composition and diversity. Paired flooded and non-flooded agricultural soils were collected from Germany, Ireland, an

Chilo sacchariphagus is a destructive sugarcane borer worldwide, and frequent extreme high temperatures disrupt its field populations. Clarifying larval thermal response mechanisms provides theoretical support for pest risk prediction under climate warming. Previous work has illustrated moderate heat induces canonical HSP activation, but the molecular responses of this pest to 41 °C extreme heat remain unclear. As such, we conducted non-reference transcriptome sequencing and 11 physio-biochemical assays on fifth-instar larvae exposed to 41 °C for 12 h (26 °C as control) to characterize its the

This study investigated the immunostimulatory activity and underlying mechanism of Ribes fasciculatum leaf water extract in RAW264.7 macrophages. Among extracts prepared using water or ethanol-containing solvents, only the water extract induced NO production. Further evaluation of extraction temperature and time identified the extract prepared at 20°C for 24 h (RFL-DW20) as the most active sample under the tested conditions, with NO-inducing activity increasing after 12 h of extraction and reaching a plateau by 24 h. RFL-DW20 increased NO and PGE2 production, upregulated iNOS and COX-2 express

Agrochemicals are used worldwide in food production, but their use varies between countries due to the damage observed to nature and human health. Allelopathy is the primary pathway of chemical communication in plants, interfering with biome development through stimulation and/or inhibition mechanisms. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the biological activities of the ethanol extract (EE) and fractions of S. fluminensis leaves on monocotyledonous and eudicotyledonous models. The EE was obtained by percolation with ethanol, and the hexane (HEXF), dichloromethane (DCMF), ethyl acetate (EAF),

Elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide (ECO2) is a key climatic factor influencing the resilience of plant-microbial symbiotic systems against heavy metal contamination. Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis shows great potential for cadmium (Cd) remediation. However, the mechanism by which ECO2 regulates Cd phytostabilization in symbiosis remains unclear. This study conducted a 90-day experiment in growth chambers to investigate the effects of ECO2 on the growth, Cd accumulation and chemical forms, as well as nutrient uptake and antioxidant system in Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis. In this study, using gelatin and polydextrose as the matrix materials, a bilayer intelligent indicator film was fabricated by incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO) and a formulated combination of curcumin (Cur) and blueberry anthocyanins (BB) for real-time monitoring of food freshness. The outer layer (gelatin/polydextrose/ZnO) provides ultraviolet shielding, mechanical reinforcement, and moisture barrier functions. The inner layer (κ-carrageenan loaded with Cur-BB composite pigments) enables a broad pH-responsive (pH 2-13) high-contrast color transition (orange-red to yellow-brown), effectively addr

Drought and heavy metal contamination are major abiotic stresses that compromise plant growth and productivity. Small heat shock proteins (Hsp20s) act as ATP-independent molecular chaperones that are implicated in maintaining cellular proteostasis; however, their precise physiological roles and modes of action in plant stress tolerance remain poorly understood. Here, we showed that the transcript abundance of cytoplasm-localized AtHsp18.5 (AT2G19310) from Arabidopsis thaliana, one member of the CIV group, was strongly induced by both drought and lead (Pb) stress. Recombinant AtHsp18.5 exhibite
