Thimble Bladder: A Forgotten Entity.

Urogenital tuberculosis (TB) is uncommon in children. The kidney is the most common organ involved. With the spread of the disease along the urinary system, the bladder is affected very late in the disease. Considering the long latency period and advances in diagnosis and treatment, bladder involvement has rarely been reported in children over the past 2 decades. We present the management of two children with urogenital TB, including bladder involvement around the COVID-19 pandemic time. We would also like to emphasize the role played by the environmental and social conditions in the outcome a

Pathology of new world camelids in Ireland: 13 years of disease surveillance and the significance of bovine tuberculosis in alpaca.

Causes of New World Camelid (168 alpacas; 7 llamas) mortality in Ireland based on review of passive surveillance findings of the Irish Veterinary Laboratory Service from 2010 till 2023 were analysed. The most frequently submitted age group were adults (58.8 %), followed by juveniles (20.6 %), crias (16.6 %), and aborted foeti (4 %). Regardless of age, 96 % were suitable for investigation, with identified aetiology in 77.4 % of cases. The pathology was systemic (30.9 %) or involving the alimentary (39.3 %), respiratory (8.9 %), urogenital (4.9 %), musculoskeletal and lymphatic (2.2 % each), int

Ovarian Actinomycosis Mimicking Ovarian Malignancy: A Case Report.

Actinomyces spp. are non-spore-forming anaerobic bacteria that can be part of the normal flora of human oral, intestinal, and urogenital tracts. Mucosal disruption can lead to an infection characterized by granulomatous inflammation leading to abscess formation and sinus tracts classically draining pus with sulfur granules. Most actinomycosis cases are polymicrobial, involving various aerobic and non-aerobic bacteria. Cervicofacial actinomycosis is by far the most common, accounting for more than half of its presentations; however, cases of thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, and central nervous syst

Tuberculosis Beyond the Lungs: A Pictorial Review of Key Diagnostic Imaging Insights.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health challenge, traditionally associated with pulmonary manifestations. However, extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) accounts for a substantial portion of TB cases, particularly in immunocompromised patients. EPTB can affect virtually any organ system and often mimics other infectious, inflammatory, or neoplastic conditions, making diagnosis particularly challenging. This pictorial review aims to illustrate the broad spectrum of imaging findings in EPTB using selected, confirmed cases involving hepatic, splenic, adrenal, pancreatic, genitourinary

Case Report: Papillary renal cell carcinoma complicated by ipsilateral renal tuberculosis.

Papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) complicated by ipsilateral renal tuberculosis (TB) represents an exceptionally rare and complex clinical condition. Renal TB is the most common form of urogenital TB, while PRCC is the most prevalent histological subtype of non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In this study, we present the first reported case of PRCC complicated by ipsilateral renal TB, where the patient exhibited low back pain without hematuria. Initial imaging studies indicated a space-occupying lesion in the left kidney, raising suspicion of renal tumors. Subsequent postoperative

Environmental exposure-related health worries, work ability and health, surveyed by occupational health services.

OBJECTIVES: Environmental intolerance (EI) can negatively impact well-being and daily life, and even lead to disability. Healthcare can detect EI early and conduct interventions. This study explored ways of identifying environmental exposure-related health worries and EI during occupational health (OH) check-ups, and their associations with unselected working-age employees' perceived work ability, stress and overall health. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A crosssectional survey was conducted among 355 employees attending OH check-ups at an occupational health services (OHS) unit in Southern Ostrobothn

Imaging of infra-thoracic tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially curable disease that is a leading cause of death globally. While it typically affects the lungs, this disease may involve many extra-pulmonary sites, particularly in patients with risk factors. Extra-pulmonary TB often mimics a variety of different diseases, posing a diagnostic dilemma. Imaging aids in early diagnosis of TB, especially in patients with non-specific or atypical symptoms found at extra-pulmonary infra-thoracic locations. Imaging also helps guide appropriate laboratory investigation, monitor disease progress, and response to treatment. This revi

Renal Allograft Malakoplakia Presenting as a Pseudotumoral Lesion.

Malakoplakia is an uncommon inflammatory disease that can involve many organ systems but is often encountered in the urogenital tract. Kidney allograft malakoplakia is even rarer and can have a diffuse parenchymal or a pseudotumoral presentation. We describe a case of grafi malakoplakia in an adult female, who presented with dull aching pain in the right loin, fever, and vomiting. Ultrasonography of the kidney graft showed a heterogeneous lesion (2.6 cm × 2.9 cm), raising suspicion of primary or metastatic renal tumors. The diagnosis was established after a histopathological examination of the

Mesenchymal stem cells-derived extracellular vesicles for therapeutics of renal tuberculosis.

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis with a renal involvement can be a manifestation of a disseminated infection that requires therapeutic intervention, particularly with a decrease in efficacy of conventional regimens. In the present study, we investigated the therapeutic potency of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) in the complex anti-tuberculosis treatment (ATT). A rabbit model of renal tuberculosis (rTB) was constructed by injecting of the standard strain Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv into the cortical layer of the kidney parenchyma. Isolated rabbit MSC-EVs were intr

Genitourinary Fistula: epidemiology, changing trends in etiology and management: A tertiary care institute's perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Urogenital fistula is a physically, socially and psychologically devastating condition for the patient. In developed countries, these fistulae are typically related to gynecological surgery, pelvic pathology like malignancy or post radiation therapy. In contrast, classical teaching is that urogenital fistulae in the developing countries like India are usually associated with prolonged labor and obstetric complications. This retrospective study conducted at a tertiary care health Institute shows a paradigm shift in epidemiology, etiology and management of genitourinary fistulae in

[Complications of intravesical BCG therapy].

BCG instillations are considered to be the standard of care therapy for superficial urothelial bladder carcinoma. Although serious adverse events are uncommon, the presence of high fever for at least two days in conjunction with systemic and/or local organ manifestations (except for urogenital symptoms), with the exclusion of other causes, suffice for the diagnosis of a disseminated BCG infection. Microbiologic detection of the pathogen is not necessary for diagnosis, as the detection of granuloma is more often successful and sufficient. Therapy for this infection includes oral Isoniazid, Rifa

Analysis of the potential regulatory mechanisms of female and latent genital tuberculosis affecting ovarian reserve function using untargeted metabolomics.

Female and latent genital tuberculosis (FGTB and LGTB) in young women may lead to infertility by damaging ovarian reserve function, but the regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects of FGTB and LGTB on ovarian reserve function and potential regulatory mechanisms by untargeted metabolomics of follicular fluid, aiming to provide insights for the clinical management and treatment approaches for afflicted women. We recruited 19 patients with FGTB, 16 patients with LGTB, and 16 healthy women as a control group. Clinical data analysis revealed that both the FGT
