Efficiency of Chitosan Nanocarriers in Vaccinology for Mucosal Immunization.

The mucosal barrier constitutes a huge surface area, close to 40 m2 in humans, located mostly in the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts and ocular cavities. It plays a crucial role in tissue interactions with the microbiome, dietary antigens and other environmental materials. Effective vaccinations to achieve highly protective mucosal immunity are evolving strategies to counteract several serious diseases including tuberculosis, diphtheria, influenzae B, severe acute respiratory syndrome, Human Papilloma Virus infection and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Interestingly, o

Clinical heterogeneity of polish patients with KAT6B-related disorder.

BACKGROUND: Say-Barber-Biesecker-Young-Simpson (SBBYSS) variant of Ohdo syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant and clinically heterogenous disorder, caused by pathogenic variants in the KAT6B gene located on chromosome 10q22.2. KAT6B encodes a highly conserved histone acetyltransferase belonging to the MYST family. Currently, diseases caused by pathogenic variants in KAT6B (KAT6B-related disorders) comprise two allelic entities: SBBYSS variant of Ohdo syndrome and genitopatellar syndrome (GPS). Increase in the number of cases with overlapping GPS/SBBYSS phenotype which makes it necessary to re

Probable endometrial tuberculosis in a patient with rhupus.

UNLABELLED: Endometrial tuberculosis (TB) is an uncommon manifestation of disseminated TB. Rhupus is the coexistence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We describe a case of endometrial TB in rhupus patient an immunosuppressed. CONTRIBUTION: We describe an uncommon presentation of disseminated TB, endometrial TB, in a rare rheumatic disease, rhupus. A high index of suspicion for TB is imperative in immunocompromised patients presenting with chronic urogenital symptoms especially in an endemic area.

Prostate tuberculosis mimicking prostate cancer: Case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Prostate tuberculosis (PTB) has no specific symptoms, or insidious presentation in male reproductive system tuberculosis, and is difficult to detect in the early stage. When PTB develops to the late stage, it leads to disease progression and irreversible organ and tissue damage. At present, the imaging manifestations of prostate tuberculosis vary and are not well known to imaging physicians and urologists. DIAGNOSES AND INTERVENTIONS: This case was a PTB patient, whose main manifestation was elevated serum prostate-specific antigen and the diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasound-guid

Multidrug-resistant tuberculous orchiepididymitis: a brief case report.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death by infectious diseases worldwide. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is a growing problem, especially in countries with high TB prevalence. Although the lungs are the organs most frequently affected by this disease, Mycobacterium tuberculosis can harm any organ, including the urogenital tract, causing extrapulmonary tuberculosis, which leads to a challenging diagnosis and consequent treatment delays. In this article, we present a case of orchiepididymitis caused by multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) with a significantly delayed diagnosis, the

The great pretender: Multi-system tuberculosis and pathological fracture masquerading as a severe acute football groin injury - Case study with a 5-year follow-up.

In this clinical case, a man presented with a groin injury on his dominant side, which he apparently sustained in football (soccer) practice on the previous day. The man was unable to walk unassisted and had to be transported in a wheelchair. The consulting practitioner grew suspicious upon finding minimal clinical evidence and nothing notable on the X-ray to suggest a severe acute injury. A subsequent detailed workup revealed extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) of the musculoskeletal (MSK) and genitourinary tract (GUT) systems, complicated by a pathological fracture of the acetabulum, as the c

"TB - Mindedness"-the only way to beat "the great mimicker": A case series with atypical presentation of female genital tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND: Incidence of Tuberculosis (TB) cases in India reported in 2019 is 193 per 1 lakh population [National Tuberculosis Elimination Plan (NTEP)]. In India, annual extra pulmonary TB burden is 20-25%, of which 4% of cases are of urogenital origin (Revised National TB Control Programme, 2019; World Health Organization, 2019). The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has made a target of eliminating tuberculosis by 2025 under the NTEP by the process of identification, notification and treatment of cases. Tuberculosis being a leading cause of infertility in developing countries, employing

Tuberculosis and its clinical consequences on Women's health.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes tuberculosis, a fatal infection resulting in widespread illness and death. In 2020, approximately 10 million people were diagnosed with tuberculosis. The top 30 tuberculosis-endemic countries accounted for 86% of all estimated occurrence cases worldwide. In this context, eight of these accounted for two-thirds of the global total, with India having a prevalence of 26%. Aside from lung inflammation, the risk factors for tuberculosis in women include extra-pulmonary infection, particularly genital tuberculosis, tuberculous mastitis, and tuberculous in the perito

Tuberculosis revisted: classic imaging findings in childhood.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the major public health threats worldwide, despite improved diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Tuberculosis is one of the main causes of infectious disease in the chest and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality in paediatric populations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Due to the difficulty in obtaining microbiological confirmation of pulmonary TB in children, diagnosis often relies on a combination of clinical and radiological findings. The early diagnosis of central nervous system TB is challenging with presumptive diagnosi

From Testicle to Brain: A Case of Disseminated Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis remains a major cause of death by infection in the world. Disseminated tuberculosis occurs most frequently in the context of reactivation of a previously latent infection and is invariably lethal if untreated. Age, late presentation, and serious underlying disease are strong death predictors. We report the case of a 72-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency room with sudden onset hemiparesis and aphasia, with no acute lesions on contrast CT. Two months prior to the current event, the patient had undergone surgery for a testicular abscess in a different hospital. Sinc

[Extrapulmonary tuberculosis].

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The site of involvement can vary widely, with common sites including the lymph nodes, pleura, skin, ear, nose and throat, genitourinary system, pericardium, gastrointestinal tract, bones and joints, and central nervous system. Clinical manifestations of extrapulmonary TB are diverse and often non-specific. Diagnosis is based on a combination of clinical suspicion, imaging, histopathology, and microbiology. Treatment of extrapulmonary TB generally follows similar principles to pulmonary TB, but the duration

Disseminated tuberculosis: Clinical presentation, diagnosis, and outcomes in a tertiary-care hospital in Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) is the primary infectious cause of mortality worldwide. Although TB incidence and prevalence are declining, the use of immunosuppressive drugs and the growing prevalence of immunocompromising conditions such as comorbidities, malignancies, and the use of immunosuppressive agents are risk factors for disseminated TB (DTB). This study aims to identify the relevant clinical, laboratory, radiological, and histopathological features of DTB, as well as to assess the typical anatomical distributions and treatment outcomes of patients diagnosed with the disease at King Ab

Imaging recommendations and algorithms for pediatric tuberculosis: part 2-extrathoracic tuberculosis.

Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment in recent years, tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health concern. Children are amongst the most vulnerable groups affected by this disease. Although TB primarily involves the lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes, it can affect virtually any organ system of the body. Along with clinical history combined with physical examination and laboratory tests, various medical imaging tools help establish the diagnosis. Medical imaging tests are also helpful for follow-up during therapy, to assess complications and exclude other underlying pathologies. This artic

Tuberculosis of the Cervical Spine: A Case Report.

Tuberculosis of the cervical spine is a rare but deadly form of tuberculosis (TB), where the infection affects the cervical vertebrae or bones of the neck. It is also known as Pott's disease. The causative organism is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually occurs when TB bacteria spread from other body parts, such as the lungs, to the cervical vertebrae through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. It also shows extrapulmonary involvement, including the central nervous, genitourinary, and lymphatic systems, bones, and joints. Tuberculosis of the spine is often seen. Cervical spine tuberculosis
