Large B-cell lymphoma with IRF4 gene rearrangements: Differences in clinicopathologic, immunophenotypic and cytogenetic features between pediatric and adult patients.

Large B-cell lymphoma (LBL) with interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) rearrangement (LBL-IRF4), a provisional entity in the 2017 WHO classification, primarily arises in children and young adults and has a favorable prognosis. However, few studies have addressed the clinicopathologic and cytogenetic features of older adults with IRF4-rearranged B-cell lymphomas. From a database of all internal and external cases (08/01/2015 to 12/01/2020) on which interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization was performed at the Mayo Clinic, we identified 43 patients with B-cell lymphoma and IRF4 rearrangemen

Evaluation of physiological Waldeyer's ring, mediastinal blood pool, thymic, bone marrow, splenic and hepatic activity with 18F-FDG PET/CT: exploration of normal range among pediatric patients.

INTRODUCTION: While 18F-FDG PET/CT pediatrics applications have increased in number and indications, few studies have addressed normal maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) of referral organs in children. The purpose of this study is to assess these in a cohort of pediatric patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 285 18F-FDG PET/CT scans in 229 patients were reviewed. SUVmax were assessed for mediastinal blood pool (MBP), thymus (T), liver (L), spleen (S), bone marrow (BM) and Waldeyer's Ring (Wald). L/MBP and S/L ratios were calculated. Same day complete blood counts (CBC) were available for 1

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma of a palate: A case report of a highly destructive lesion.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a haematolymphoid neoplasm that can affect nodal and extra-nodal sites. It is a rare disease in the oral cavity, accounting for only 2% of all extra-nodal lymphomas. Its aetiology is multi-factorial, being strongly associated with viral infections. The average age group most affected is 66 years old, with a slight predilection for males. The most common histological sub-type in the oral cavity is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, with Waldeyer's ring being the most affected site in the nodal form, and extranodally, it may involve the tongue, hard/soft palate, maxilla

Progress of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Radiotherapy in the Treatment of Extranodal NK/T Cell Lymphoma.

Extranodal Natural Killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is an extremely rare type of lymphoma which is highly lethal. It mainly affects the midline area unfolding as a necrotic granulomatous and extremely disfiguring lesion. There are two subtypes of (NKTL); the most common one is nasal which appears in the nasal cavity including the nasopharynx, oropharynx, parts of the aero digestive tract and Waldeyer's ring. While the other rarer subtype, appears in sites like the skin, testis, gastrointestinal tract, salivary glands and muscle. ENKTL is popular for the expression of multidrug resistance-associa

Role of Palatine Tonsil and Epipharyngeal Lymphoid Tissue in the Development of Glomerular Active Lesions (Glomerular vasculitis) in Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy.

Hematuria is an essential symptom of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). Although the etiology of hematuria in IgAN has not been fully elucidated, it is thought that the rupture of the glomerular basement membranes caused by intra-capillary leukocyte influx, so-called glomerular vasculitis, is the pathological condition responsible for severe hematuria. Glomerular vasculitis are active lesions that exist in the glomeruli of acute phase IgAN and it is important because it is suspected to make the transition to segmental glomerular sclerosis (SGS) as a repair scar lesion in the chronic phase, a

Branchial cleft cyst and branchial cleft cyst carcinoma, or cystic lymph node and cystic nodal metastasis?

BACKGROUND: Lateral cervical cysts are usually considered as of branchial cleft origin, despite many studies showing that branchial cysts do not arise from the remnants of the branchial apparatus. In the same way, some authors still consider that a true clinicopathological entity such as 'branchial cleft cyst carcinoma' could exist, at least in theory. Despite insufficient evidence in support of the branchial theory, a number of publications continue to emphasise this concept. METHODS: A literature review of articles in Medline and PubMed databases was carried out to retrieve papers relevant

Extranodal NK/T-Cell Lymphoma With Widespread Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Involvement on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

Nasal-type extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma is an aggressive rare type of lymphoma that mostly affects the nasal cavity and adjacent areas. However, some patients can present with distant nodal or extranodal involvement including the Waldeyer ring, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary organs, lung, thyroid, skin, or adrenal glands. Herein, we present a unique case of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma with widespread cutaneous and subcutaneous involvement on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

A multifaceted and feasible prognostic model of amino acid metabolism-related genes in the immune response and tumor microenvironment of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

We investigated the role of amino acid metabolism (AAM) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tissues to explore its prognostic value and potential therapeutic strategies. A risk score based on four AAM-related genes (AMG) was constructed that could predict the prognosis of HNSCC. These four genes were up-regulated in HNSCC tissues and might act as oncogenes. Internal validation in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) by bootstrapping showed that patients with high-risk scores had a poorer prognosis than patients with low-risk scores, and this was confirmed in the Gene Expression Omnibus

Macrophage renewal modes affect acquired resistance to gefitinib in EGFR‑mutant lung cancer PC‑9 cells.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies documented the problem of inbreeding among Italian Greyhounds (IG) from the USA and its possible role in a multiple autoimmune disease syndrome. The present study is an extension of these earlier experiments and had two objectives: 1) to identify pockets of additional genetic diversity that might still exist among IG from the USA and Continental Europe, and 2) to determine how loss of genetic diversity within the genome and in the dog leukocyte antigen (DLA) complex relates to the problem of autoimmune disease in IG from the USA. Genetic testing was conducted using

Evaluation of Intranasal Vaccine Delivery Using Anatomical Replicas of Infant Nasal Airways.

PURPOSE: Nasal delivery is a favorable route for vaccination against most respiratory infections, as antigen deposited in the nasal turbinate and Waldeyer's ring areas induce mucosal and systemic immune responses. However, little is known about the nasal distribution of the vaccines, specifically for infants. METHODS: Anatomical nasal replicas of five subjects, 3-24 months, were developed to assess local intranasal vaccine delivery using MAD Nasal™ device, and understand impact of breathing conditions and administration parameters. High performance liquid chromatography was used to quantify t

Reduced radiotherapy clinical benefit for primary Waldeyer's ring diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the rituximab era.

This study aimed to identify the prognostic factors in patients with Waldeyer's ring diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (WR-DLBCL), comparing the efficacy of radiotherapy (RT) for the WR-DLBCL patients in the pre-rituximab and rituximab eras. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 134 patients diagnosed with WR-DLBCL. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors for WR-DLBCL. Then, we divided these patients into the rituximab plus chemotherapy group (R-chemotherapy) (n = 88) and chemotherapy group (n = 46), and the Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression model an

Difficult airway in a patient with lymphoma. A case report.

A 86-year-old male patient, diagnosed with lymphoma, was scheduled for a submaxillectomy to choose his best chemotherapy treatment. He referred recent voice changes and laterocervical adenopathies without respiratory symptoms. There were no additional risk predictors in preoperative airway assessment. Following anaesthesic induction, an upper airway obstruction occurred. After that, an unexpected difficult airway was encountered. Both clinical situations resulted in unpredicted difficult airway management. Image tests seen after the procedure revealed a severe narrowing of parapharyngeal space

First-in-Human Study of the Biodistribution and Pharmacokinetics of 89Zr-CX-072, a Novel Immunopet Tracer Based on an Anti-PD-L1 Probody.

PURPOSE: CX-072, a PD-L1-targeting Probody therapeutic, is engineered to be activated by tumor proteases that remove a masking peptide. To study effects on biodistribution and pharmacokinetics, we performed 89Zr-CX-072 positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Patients received ∼1 mg, 37 MBq 89Zr-CX-072 plus 0, 4, or 9 mg unlabeled CX-072 and PET scans at days 2, 4, and 7. After that, treatment comprised 10 mg/kg CX-072 q2 weeks (n = 7) + 3 mg/kg ipilimumab q3w 4× (n = 1). Normal organ tracer uptake was expressed as standardized uptake value (SUV)mean and tumor uptake a

Health-Related Quality of Life Assessed in Children with Adenoid Hypertrophy.

INTRODUCTION: The quality of life issue began to be earnestly studied in the second half of the 20th century. It had originally been used as a criterion for measuring levels of human development in the USA and Western Europe. At first, only objective parameters were assessed, such as material goods; however, later, subjective and non-material parameters were added, such as health, freedom, and happiness. Over time, more and more attention has been paid to the subjective parameters regarding any quality of life assessment. Adenoids are physiological clusters of lymphoid tissue included in Walde

89Zr-pembrolizumab imaging as a non-invasive approach to assess clinical response to PD-1 blockade in cancer.

BACKGROUND: Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) antibody treatment is standard of care for melanoma and non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Accurately predicting which patients will benefit is currently not possible. Tumor uptake and biodistribution of the PD-1 antibody might play a role. Therefore, we carried out a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging study with zirconium-89 (89Zr)-labeled pembrolizumab before PD-1 antibody treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with advanced or metastatic melanoma or NSCLC received 37 MBq (1 mCi) 89Zr-pembrolizumab (∼2.5 mg antibody) intravenous

Assessment of Waldeyer's ring in pediatric and adolescent Hodgkin lymphoma patients-Importance of multimodality imaging: Results from the EuroNet-PHL-C1 trial.

BACKGROUND: In the EuroNet Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma (EuroNet-PHL) trials, decision on Waldeyer's ring (WR) involvement is usually based on clinical assessment, that is, physical examination and/or nasopharyngoscopy. However, clinical assessment only evaluates mucosal surface and is prone to interobserver variability. Modern cross-sectional imaging technology may provide valuable information beyond mucosal surface, which may lead to a more accurate WR staging. PATIENTS, MATERIALS, AND METHODS: The EuroNet-PHL-C1 trial recruited 2102 patients, of which 1752 underwent central review including

Whole-body [18F]-FDG-PET/MRI for staging of pediatric non-Hodgkin lymphoma: first results from a single-center evaluation.

AIM: In 2015, the revised International Pediatric Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Staging System was published. It mentions [18F]-FDG-PET/MRI as the latest method to perform whole-body imaging. However, supporting data are pending. Our aim was to investigate the performance of whole-body [18F]-FDG-PET/MRI in pediatric non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients by using a limited number of MRI sequences. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten pediatric patients with histologically proven non-Hodgkin lymphoma underwent whole-body [18F]-FDG-PET/MRI at staging. The retrospective analysis included three steps: First, [18F]-FDG-PET a
