Activation of the PGC-1α-mediated mitochondrial glutamine metabolism pathway attenuates female offspring osteoarthritis induced by prenatal excessive prednisone.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic, age-related joint disease. Previous studies have shown that osteoarthritis develops during intrauterine development. Prednisone is frequently used to treat pregnancies complicated by autoimmune diseases. However, limited research has been conducted on the enduring effects of prednisone use during pregnancy on the offspring. In this study, we investigated the effect of excessive prednisone exposure on cartilage development and susceptibility to osteoarthritis in the offspring. We found that prenatal prednisone exposure (PPE) impaired cartilage extracellular matrix (

Treatment of Terminal Syrinx With a Syringo-Subarachnoid Shunt and the Novel Use of a Titanium Knot Fastener: A Case Report.

A syrinx involves cystic dilation of the central canal of the spinal cord due to the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid and often results in a neurological deficit. While treatment options vary, surgical management is often utilized and requires an open durotomy. A 70-year-old female presented with one year of progressive low back pain with associated leg numbness, urinary incontinence, bilateral foot drop, and imbalance resulting in multiple falls. MRI revealed a terminal syrinx at the level of the conus medullaris. She underwent an uncomplicated T12-L1 laminectomy for syrinx fenestration an

Muscle synergies during the walk-run and run-walk transitions.

BACKGROUND: Muscular synergies could represent the patterns of muscular activation used by the central nervous system (CNS) to simplify the production of movement. Studies in walking-running transitions described up to nine synergy modules, and an earlier activation of flexor and extension ankle muscular groups compared to running or walking. Our project aims to study the behaviour of muscle synergies in different stance and swing variations of walking-running (WRT) and running-walking (RWT) transitions. METHODS: Twenty-four trained men participated in this study. A variable speed protocol on

Spatial proximity and gene function: a new dimension in prokaryotic gene association network analysis with 3D-GeneNet.

Understanding the biological functions and processes of genes, particularly those not yet characterized, is crucial for advancing molecular biology and identifying therapeutic targets. The hypothesis guiding this study is that the 3D proximity of genes correlates with their functional interactions and relevance in prokaryotes. We introduced 3D-GeneNet, an innovative software tool that utilizes high-throughput sequencing data from chromosome conformation capture techniques and integrates topological metrics to construct gene association networks. Through a series of comparative analyses focused
