OBJECTIVE: To investigate the pathological features of Helicobacter pylori associated gastric mucosal inflammation and to establish relevant histopathological assessment standards.
METHODS: Biopsy specimens from the gastric antrum, body of stomach, and gastric angle were taken from 2 134 cases of H. pylori associated gastric mucosal inflammation. H. pylori was identified by means of rapid urase test and toluidine blue staining or immunohistological staining. The severity of mucosal inflammation was evaluated with HE staining. Ultrastucture evaluation was conducted for part of the specimens.

The present study is a comprehensive retrospective analysis of 1341 gastric neoplasms out of 10 733 individuals subjected to upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at the main teaching cum referral hospital in the Kashmir Valley. Of these 78% were males and 22% females, majority being in the age group of 41-60 years with 60% of the patients being smokers. Seventy three patients of non ulcer dyspepsia underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy from antrum and body of stomach. The purpose of this study was to find the proper measurement of the length of gastric tube for children preoperatively. The author found that the tube can only reach the cardia of stomach by routine measurement and can not achieve the purpose of gastrointestinal decompression. This study was done to 34 patients. The length of the inserted gastric tube was measured by the distance from the hair border of the middle forehead to the umbilicus. The tube was confirmed to reach the body of stomach during surgery and can reduce gastro-intestinal pressure effectively after operation.
