[Clinical practice guideline for the use of new-generation tetracycline-class antibiotics in pediatrics (2026 edition)].

The first-generation tetracyclines were natural products derived from microbial metabolism and approved for the treatment of various bacterial infections. After being widely used in clinical treatment, tetracyclines were found to cause adverse effects such as permanent tooth discoloration and enamel hypoplasia in children<8 years of age. Consequently, for more than half a century, warnings related to tooth discoloration have been included in the labels of all tetracycline-class agents, and they are not recommended for use in children under 8 years of age. Subsequently, the second-generation an

Comparative analysis of diagnostic kits for detecting Ureaplasma spp. and M. hominis in genital and urinary samples.

Ureaplasma spp. and Mycoplasma hominis are bacteria that commonly colonize the human urogenital tract but may also contribute to diverse genital and obstetrical infections. Their frequent detection in asymptomatic individuals complicates diagnostic interpretation, underscoring the need for reliable methods that enable species identification, semi-quantification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST). This study compared two updated commercial assays, Mycoplasma IST 3® (bioMérieux) and MYCOFAST® RevolutioN 2 (Elitech), against an in-house reference method (UZ Brussel). A total of 111 c

Self-cycling nanozymes: Cubic Cu2O-mediated peroxidase-like degradation and detoxification of tetracycline antibiotics.

The development of high-performance nanozyme for degrading tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) offers a promising strategy. In this work, the cubic Cu2O nanozymes were synthesized via a surfactant-free hydrothermal strategy. Consequently, the Cu2O nanozymes activated H2O2 to generate hydroxyl radicals (·OH), achieving efficient broad-spectrum degradation of TCs (including oxytetracycline, chlorotetracycline, and tetracycline). Significantly, the designed degradation system achieved >95% removal efficiency for all TCs within 60 min. Specifically, Density functional theory calculations unveiled that

Bimetallic urchin-like Au@Pt/SiO2 hybrid interface realizing a reversed positive signal strategy for electrochemical immunosensing of tetracycline.

A reversed positive-signal electrochemical immunosensor was developed for ultra-sensitive tetracyclines (TC) detection, leveraging a synergistically engineered interface of conductive urchin-like Au@Pt nanoparticles (NPs) and insulating SiO2 nanoprobes. The Au@Pt NPs provide a high-performance electroactive foundation that significantly expands the effective surface area and accelerates interfacial electron transfer kinetics. A ‘signal-on’ mechanism was innovatively constructed by utilizing the mass-transport resistance and steric hindrance of bulky, insulating SiO2-antibody conjugates. In the

Genome-wide characteristics, antibiotic resistance, and pathogenicity analysis of Streptococcus parasuis strains isolated from diseased pigs.

Streptococcus parasuis is currently not only an underestimated zoonotic pathogen but also a bacterial source of infection in food animals, posing a potential threat to global public health. Despite increased reports in recent years, systematic studies in Northwest China remain scarce. However, the lack of complete genomic sequence information has limited in-depth bioinformatics analysis of multidrug-resistant S. parasuis isolated from pigs. This study reports the whole-genome sequencing results of S. parasuis strain A1 isolated from pigs. The A1 genome consists of a single circular chromosome

Linking Clinical and Environmental Multidrug Resistance Plasmids Captured from the Tama River Flowing Through the Tokyo Megalopolis.

Background: Plasmid-mediated horizontal transfer of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) is a major driver of resistance dissemination across clinical and environmental settings. Urban rivers flowing through densely populated megacities represent critical interfaces where human-associated and environmental microbiomes intersect; however, the genetic structures and functional characteristics of resistance plasmids circulating in such environments remain insufficiently resolved. Methods: In this study, we conducted detailed genomic and phenotypic analyses of 11 ARG-bearing plasmids previously c

Synthesis and application of polyoxometalate ionic liquid-coated ZnO nanoflowers for efficient extraction of tetracycline residues in food and environmental samples.

Monitoring of antibiotic residues in foodstuffs is essential to ensure consumer safety. Among these antibiotics, tetracyclines (TCs) are the most widely used veterinary drugs, and their residues pose serious health risks. A novel sorbent material consisting of zinc oxide modified with a polyoxometalate-based ionic liquid (POM-IL@ZnO) was applied in dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-µSPE) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV) for the determination of tetracyclines, namely oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and chlortetracycline (CTC)

Joint effects of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) on sleep quality in Chinese elderly: A Bayesian kernel machine regression and quantile g-computation analysis.

Despite their trace concentrations in the environment, contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) pose potential risks to human health, particularly for vulnerable populations like the elderly. However, current research provides limited insight into the relationship between CECs and sleep quality in older adults. The current study involved 3096 seniors aged 60 and above through face-to-face interviews. Urine samples were collected to biomonitor 50 CECs. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). To study the association between CECs and sleep quality, multivariabl

Pangenome-GWAS analysis of Clostridioides difficile resistant traits from healthcare- and non-healthcare-associated settings.

Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) is a gastrointestinal pathogen that causes healthcare-associated infections with numerous mechanisms to acquire and confer antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and rapidly adapt to novel environments. These environments extend beyond healthcare, and encompass non-healthcare-related settings, where antimicrobials engender distinct selection pressures. Employing a dataset of 3870 whole-genome sequences of C. difficile from healthcare and non-healthcare environments, this study investigates the selection pressures associated with each setting and its impact on th

A dual-functional fluorescent sensor based on a single soybean-derived carbon dots for discrimination and quantification of tetracyclines in food.

This work presents a simple and sustainable platform for antibiotic monitoring in food, based on a single type of soybean-derived nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-BCDs). The excitation-dependent fluorescence of the N-BCDs enables dual functionality. First, as a single-wavelength probe, it achieves sensitive quantification of individual tetracyclines in milk, with a low limit of detection (0.12 μM for TC) and excellent recoveries (97.2-110.4%). Second, and more innovatively, it transforms into a dual-wavelength array sensor by leveraging differential responses at two optimized wavelengths. This al

Biodegradation of tetracycline antibiotics: Advances and insights into microbial resources, enzymatic mechanisms, and remediation potential.

The extensive use of tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in human therapy and animal husbandry has resulted in their persistent residues and accumulation across diverse environments, raising substantial global concern. These residues not only accelerate the emergence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens but also pose a long-term ecological risk through the horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Microbial biodegradation plays a crucial role in the elimination of TCs. Through long-term acclimation and targeted screening, numerous microorganisms exhibiting high degradation capacities
