RATIONALE: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a common disease in pediatric orthopedics. Most research on SCFE has focused on high-risk groups or the whole population, and studies focusing on adult SCFE patients are rare. In the present study, we report the case of an adult patient with SCFE.
PATIENT CONCERN: A 37-year-old man presented to our clinic with persistent pain that was poorly localized to both hips, groin regions, and thighs for more than 1 year.

INTRODUCTION: Severe acquired hypothyroidism in childhood is a rare condition, mostly caused by autoimmune thyroiditis. Scarce and inconsistent data based on small patient numbers exist concerning its impact on growth in height.
METHODS: Patient files at a single centre university hospital over 8 years were retrospectively reviewed. We identified 43 patients (mean age 10.6 years, 3.3-15.25, 59% prepubertal, 88% females) in a cohort of children older than 3 years with an initial TSH>30 mIU/l and reduced T4 or fT4; congenital and drug-induced hypothyroidism were excluded.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and thyroid dysfunction are common in older people, but little is known about how they affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
METHODS: We assessed HRQoL with the 15D instrument in 329 home-dwelling patients aged ≥ 75 years with stable CVD and compared the results to those of an age- and gender-matched general population (n = 103).
