Dyspepsia, defined as "pain or discomfort centered in the upper abdomen" is reported by one in four adults in Western societies. The most important causes are non-ulcer (functional) dyspepsia, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux, and, rarely, gastric cancer. Persons with heartburn alone are not considered to have dyspepsia. Intestinal duplication is a rare congenital disease. It appears throughout the gastrointestinal tract, especially in the ileum. Here we describe the rare case of a gastric duplication cyst in a 59-year-old patient. Diagnostic findings and surgical therapy are discussed. Gastric duplications in adults are extremely rare, and diagnosis is often missed. Symptoms are unspecified pain in the upper abdomen, vomiting and fever, with some patients having weight loss. We examined 81 cases of primary gastrointestinal lymphomas in Korea, including 64 gastric lymphomas and 17 intestinal lymphomas, for EBV expression by EBER-1 in situ hybridization (ISH) and EBNA-1 PCR. In EBER-1 positive cases, we performed immunohistochemistry for latent membrane protein-1 (LMP-1) and EBV diffuse early antigen (EA(D)) to compare EBV latent gene expression and lytic process. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS: Outpatient ultrasound guided liver biopsy is usually reserved for diffuse pathologies. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility and results of 131 ultrasound guided biopsies of 128 abdominal lesions in 104 patients (69 men and 35 women, mean age: 59). Twenty four cysts were punctured (18 pancreatic cysts, 4 liver cysts and 2 unspecified abdominal cysts) and 104 solid tumors were biopsied (80 liver tumors, 9 pancreatic tumors, 5 portal vein obstructions, 4 unspecified abdominal tumors, 3 stomach tumors and 3 lymphadenopathies).

Mortality in a cohort of 770 workers with potential pentachlorophenol (PCP) exposure was evaluated from 1940 through 1989. BACKGROUND: Adenocarcinoma of the gastric cardia has been be increasing in Connecticut, and the risk factors responsible for the increasing incidence are unknown. This study examined the incidence pattern of adenocarcinoma of the gastric cardia and distal stomach in Connecticut during the past decades and identified components of birth cohort, period, and age as determinants of the observed time trends by regression modeling.
METHODS: This study was based on all histologically confirmed incident cases of gastric adenocarcinoma reported to the Connecticut Tumor Registry between 1955 and 1989.

We extended a previous cohort study of workers at a metal components manufacturing facility, which found elevated rats of lung cancer and unspecified nonmalignant respiratory diseases, by evaluating mortality rates from 1950 to 1987 for 3,630 workers categorized according to potential exposures to metal dusts, cutting oils/fluids, metal fumes, and solvents.
