INTRODUCTION: Depression is one of the five most frequent disorders in primary care practice and often remains unrecognized. One of the reasons why depression often passes unnoticed is comorbidity - a number of different chronic diseases coexist with depression, especially in elderly patients.

We retrospectively reviewed poisoning admissions to all government health facilities from 1999 to 2001, in an effort to expand our current knowledge on poisoning in Malaysia to a level that better reflects a nationwide burden. There were 21 714 admissions reported with 779 deaths. The case-fatality rate was 35.88/1000 admissions. The majority of admissions (89.7%) and deaths (98.9%) occurred in adults. OBJECTIVE: To examine trends in adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in people aged 60 years or over causing admission to or an extended stay in Western Australian hospitals between 1981 and 2002.
DESIGN AND SETTING: Secondary data analysis of case series.
PATIENTS: 43,380 patients admitted to WA public and private hospitals with an (International Classification of Diseases) ICD external cause code for an ADR, identified by the population-based WA Hospital Morbidity Data System.

Autoimmune diseases occurring concurrently with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with deletion del(5q) including band q31 are very rare and have only been reported twice in the medical literature.
