Postnatal small intestinal morphological development in Cobb 500 broiler chickens.

Intestinal development in broiler chickens is crucial for nutrient absorption for growth. Indices like villus height, crypt depth, villus perimeter, and villus area reflect the nutrient absorptive capacity of birds. Hence, this study investigated postnatal small intestinal maturation in Cobb 500 broiler chickens. On d 0, birds were randomly assigned to 16 replicate cages of 8 birds per cage with body weight (BW) as a blocking factor. Jejunal and ileal tissues were collected from one bird per cage on d 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 for intestinal morphology measurements. Data were analyzed using the MIX

Combined effects of incubation temperature and lipopolysaccharide exposure on immune response modulation in the quail gut.

Embryogenesis is a critical programming window in birds, during which environmental factors can reshape gene expression and influence adaptive capacity after hatching. However, little is known about how embryonic thermal manipulation modulates intestinal immune and metabolic responses to inflammatory challenge later in life. This study evaluated the effects of embryonic thermal manipulation on the intestinal transcriptomic response of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). A 2 × 2 factorial design was applied, including two incubation temperatures

Dietary capsaicin supplementation attenuates jejunal injury of piglets challenged with lipopolysaccharide.

BACKGROUND: Intensive breeding system makes piglets expose to infectious agents causing immunological stress. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a material found in Gram-negative bacteria’s cell walls, can induce immunological stress. Some studies demonstrated that immunological stress was harmful to intestinal functions of piglets. Capsaicin (CAP) has been reported to improve intestinal functions both in vivo and in vitro experiments. Thus, this study’s objective was to look into whether CAP supplementation could be an effective mean to protect jejunum of piglets against immunological stress. RESULTS:

INTRODUCTION: Risankizumab (RZB), an IL-23p19 monoclonal antibody, has demonstrated clinical efficacy in Crohn's disease (CD), yet evidence regarding its effectiveness for deep small-intestinal lesions remains scarce. These lesions are often underdiagnosed due to limited accessibility and subtle clinical presentation. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 32 patients with moderate-to-severe CD who underwent total small-intestinal evaluation by double-balloon endoscopy (DBE) both before and 8-14 months after RZB initiation in clinical practice. Endoscopic disease activity was assessed using the

Characterization of jejunal enteroids in human obesity; a model for studying GLP-1 cells.

OBJECTIVES: Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with altered secretion of enteroendocrine hormones, including the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). The mechanisms underlying this dysregulation remain poorly understood, partly due to the rarity of enteroendocrine cells (EECs) and technical difficulties in humans. Our aim was to generate an in vitro human jejunal enteroids (HJEs) derived from individuals with obesity and T2D as a simplified intestinal epithelium in a controlled environment, in order to explore GLP-1 secretion in metabolic diseases. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: HJEs were ob

Radiation Adaptive Response Enhances Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells Radioresistance in Mice: IL-17 Signaling Pathway Activation as the Underlying Mechanism.

Radiation adaptive response (RAR) significantly improves resistance to subsequent high-dose radiation exposure. While hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) are known to be crucial for radiation protection, their specific roles and response mechanisms in RAR remain unclear. Systematic investigation of these processes could reveal valuable therapeutic targets for developing HSPCs-focused radiation protection strategies. We establish a radiation-adaptive mouse model by administering a priming dose of 0.5 Gy γ rays after a 14-day interval and then investigate the protective effects and u
