BACKGROUND: Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is safe and one of the most effective etiological treatment for pollinosis. Allergen-specific salivary secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) is a useful marker to objectively evaluate treatment efficacy. However, saliva samples usually exhibit high background noise because of non-specific binding in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). We therefore aimed to establish an amplified ELISA to measure allergen-specific salivary SIgA levels to assess the efficacy of SLIT for Japanese cedar pollinosis.

This retrospective study involving 225 centers assessed TP53 and IGHV molecular status and stereotyped BcR IG subsets in a large cohort of patients with CLL in Spain using data from the RED53 project. T cells recognize antigens from pathogens and transformed cells. Yet what antigen is "ideal"? We propose a theoretical framework in which recognition is governed by T cell selection maximized near, not far from, self. Genomic errors generate antigens closer to self that paradoxically overlap with pathogen antigens and are immunogenic and non-self. We formalize this concept as the Neoantigen Quality Model, recasting antigen recognition as an adaptation to surveil the self and non-self living worlds.
