Proton Beam Therapy for Early Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Clinical Outcomes.

PURPOSE: Adjuvant proton beam therapy (PBT) is increasingly available to patients with breast cancer. It achieves better planned dose distributions than standard photon radiation therapy and therefore may reduce the risks. However, clinical evidence is lacking. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A systematic review of clinical outcomes from studies of adjuvant PBT for early breast cancer published in 2000 to 2022 was undertaken. Early breast cancer was defined as when all detected invasive cancer cells are in the breast or nearby lymph nodes and can be removed surgically. Adverse outcomes were summarized

Prevalence and spectrum of infectious and inflammatory dermatologic conditions occurring in pediatric heart transplant patients on a predominantly mTOR-based immune suppressive regimen: A retrospective chart review.

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric heart transplant patients are routinely followed in dermatology clinics due to elevated risk of cutaneous malignancy. However, transplant patients may experience other, non-cancer-related dermatologic conditions including skin infections, inflammatory diseases, and drug eruptions that can cause significant medical and psychosocial comorbidity. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of all pediatric heart transplant patients at Mayo Clinic Children's Center in Rochester, MN, was performed to determine the prevalence and spectrum of non-cancer dermatologic conditions. Retinal artery occlusion after ophthalmic surgery under regional anaesthesia: A narrative review.

Two recent cases of central retinal artery occlusion under otherwise uncomplicated sub-Tenon's block that resulted in significant visual loss after cataract surgery prompted us to undertake a literature review of such cases. We identified 97 cases of retinal artery occlusion after ophthalmic surgery under regional anaesthesia that had no immediate signs of block-related complications. These occurred after various intraocular (87%) and extraocular (13%) operations, across a wide range of ages (19-89 years) on patients with (59%) or without (39%) known risk factors. The anaesthetic techniques in

COVID 19-associated chilblain-like acral lesions among children and adolescents: an Italian retrospective, multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, great interest has been given to this disease, especially to its possible clinical presentations. Besides classical respiratory symptoms, dermatological manifestations occur quite often among infected and non-infected patients, particularly in children. A prominent IFN-I response, that is generally higher in children compared to adults, may not only cause chilblain lesions, but it could also prevent infection and viral replication, thus justifying the negative swab results, as well as the absence of relevant systemic symptoms in positive cases.

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor Mimicking a Cavitary Lesion in the Lung: A Case Report and a Comprehensive Literature Review.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are a group of soft tissue neoplasms with a predilection for the lungs and abdominopelvic cavity, characterized by a mixture of fasciitis-like, compact spindle cells, hypocellular fibrous histologic patterns, and distinctive molecular features. Due to their unspecified symptoms and non-specific radiologic presentation, the histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis of a biopsy specimen is crucial for the diagnosis. We present a case of a 30-year-old man with intermittent hemoptysis diagnosed with a pulmonary IMT. We aim to review the literature

Admission and Mortality Patterns in Intensive Care Delivery at Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital: A Three-Year Retrospective Study.

Background The intensive care unit (ICU) provides critical care to high-risk patients to prevent morbidity and mortality. This requires closer monitoring and better management than the care provided to patients in normal admission wards and non-critical care units. Mortality rates in ICUs in developing countries are remarkably high compared to rates in more developed countries. Evaluating outcomes of treatment is a way to improve the quality of care. Therefore, this study was conducted to review the pattern of admission and outcome in the ICU of Enugu State University of Science and Technology

Factors Influencing Engagement with in-Person Intensive Care Unit Recovery Clinic Services.

Background: Intensive Care Unit recovery clinics (ICU-RC), are multidisciplinary outpatient clinics designed to identify and treat post-intensive care syndrome impairments unique to each survivor of critical illness. Engagement is limited, thus we aimed to describe patient- and hospitalization-related sociodemographic factors associated with scheduling and attending in-person ICU-RC visits. Design: Consecutive case series of prospectively collected ICU-RC referral data. Setting: Data was collected over a 9-year period (2012-2020) for patients referred to an ICU-RC from ICUs at an academic medi
