AA in Brain-Memory, Dementia, Depression, Anxiety, Alzheimer's Disease, Affective and Psychiatric Disorders, and Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

The human brain is rich in AA and DHA, which are crucial for normal brain growth and development and memory. They form a major structural component of neurons of the cerebral cortex and photoreceptor cells in the retina. AA and DHA support synaptic plasticity and contribute to efficient neurotransmission. Adequate amounts of AA and DHA support neuronal growth and the formation of new synapses and thus are crucial for memory and cognitive function.Depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and other neurological diseases occur more frequently in those with coronary heart disease (CHD) and vice versa.

Biopolymers Derived from Solanum lycopersicum: Synthesis with CAL-B and Their Structural Analysis by Mass Spectrometry (DI-ESI and MALDI-TOF).

The main component of tomato cutin, 10,16-dihydroxyhexadecanoic acid, was obtained from agro-industrial waste and used to perform the polymerization reaction catalyzed by CAL-B, which is the best enzymatic reaction for producing linear oligomers; the oligomers were analyzed using direct infusion electrospray mass spectrometry (DI-ESI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) techniques. The characterization of aliphatic biopolymers is challenging due to their chemical characteristics, which make them poorly accessible for mass spectrometry analysis. During

Beyond endometrial thickness: platelet-rich plasma and reproductive outcomes in recurrent implantation failure following euploid embryo transfer.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent implantation failure (RIF) after euploid embryo transfer suggests that endometrial receptivity, rather than embryo competence alone, may be rate-limiting for pregnancy. Autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been proposed as a biological adjuvant for reproductive outcomes, but evidence in women with normal endometrial thickness remains limited. We investigated whether intrauterine PRP is associated with higher implantation rates in women with RIF and normal endometrial thickness undergoing single euploid blastocyst transfer. METHODS: Prospective observational cohort s

Ampelopsis grossedentata alleviates vascular cognitive impairment in BCAS mice by regulating VEGFA/KDR/FGFR1-mediated angiogenesis and GSK3β/Bcl-2/Bax-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Ampelopsis grossedentata (Hand.-Mazz.) W.T. Wang (vine tea) is a time-honored ethnomedicine used by the Tujia and Miao minorities in Southern China. It has traditionally been used for "clearing heat and detoxifying", "activating blood and unblocking collaterals", and "subduing liver-yang to resolve phlegm and eliminate turbidity". Its aqueous infusion is consumed as a folk remedy to alleviate vertigo, dizziness, and hypertension-related cardio-cerebrovascular symptoms. These traditional applications suggest its potential therapeutic relevance to chronic cerebral

Effect of Perioperative Intravenous Lidocaine on Rebound Pain After Interscalene Brachial Plexus Block for Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Rebound pain after single-shot interscalene brachial plexus block may diminish the early analgesic benefit of regional anesthesia after shoulder arthroscopy. We evaluated whether perioperative intravenous lidocaine reduces rebound pain after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. METHODS: In this single-center randomized, placebo-controlled Phase II trial, 120 adults receiving interscalene block plus general anesthesia were allocated 1:1 to saline or lidocaine. Lidocaine was given as a 1 mg/kg ideal-body-weight loading dose before induction followed by 2 mg·kg-1·h-1 from skin incision

A Simple Slotted Guide for Instrument Passage in Wrist Arthroscopy.

Wrist arthroscopy is increasingly used for the diagnosis and treatment of wrist pathology. However, the limited joint space and small arthroscopic portals make repeated insertion of instruments challenging and may result in soft-tissue trauma or creation of a false passage. Commercially available cannulas are generally unsuitable for wrist arthroscopy. We describe a simple technique using a segment of tubing from a disposable intravenous infusion set. A longitudinal slot is created in the tube, which is passed through the wrist joint to form a ring-shaped guide between two arthroscopic portals

In Vivo Dynamic D2O-MRI for Quantifying Apparent CSF Water Renewal Across Ventricular and Extraventricular Compartments.

PURPOSE: The choroid plexus has long been regarded as the principal source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), yet this view remains unresolved. We developed a dynamic indirect D2O MRI approach to quantify regional apparent CSF water renewal in vivo in rats at 9.4 T. METHODS: Rats were scanned at 9.4 T using spin-echo echo-planar imaging during intravenous D2O infusion (10.69-s temporal resolution, 150 × 150 μm2 in-plane resolution). A deliberately long echo time (TE = 150 ms) was used to preferentially suppress signals from brain parenchyma, blood, and interstitial fluid, thereby enhancing sensiti

Oxytocin versus Carbetocin: Preventing Postpartum Hemorrhage in Elective C-section.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly following cesarean delivery (CD). Uterotonics are routinely administered to prevent uterine atony and reduce PPH risk. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of intramuscular carbetocin versus intravenous oxytocin in preventing PPH during elective CD under spinal anesthesia. METHODS: This comparative observational study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in India. Sixty pregnant women undergoing elective CD under spinal anesthesia were divided into tw

Safety and Recovery Profile of Propofol-Based Intravenous Sedation for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography in Adults: A Prospective Single-Center Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) frequently requires deep sedation, but prone positioning, restricted airway access, and variable procedural duration create important safety concerns. We evaluated respiratory and hemodynamic events, recovery, and satisfaction during propofol-based intravenous sedation. METHODS: This prospective, single-center observational study included 100 adults with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I or II who underwent elective ERCP for common bile duct stones at King Khalid Hospital in Saudi Arabia from June 2025 to

Benchmarking Drug Library Compliance and Alert Rates in Smart Infusion Pumps: A Multicenter Retrospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Smart infusion pumps with dose error-reduction software (DERS) generate alerts to prevent infusion programming errors. However, high alert volumes may contribute to alert fatigue and impact workflow efficiency. Benchmarking continuous quality improvement (CQI) data across institutions may help identify opportunities to optimize drug library (DL) performance. This study evaluated the relationship between DL compliance and alert-related metrics using a benchmarking approach. METHODS: A retrospective multicenter analysis of smart infusion pump data was conducted across 90 instituti

A multiphase, multimethod protocol for evaluating air-in-line alarms and infusion-technology usability during antineoplastic drug administration.

Air-in-line alarms during intravenous administration of antineoplastic drugs can interrupt therapy, increase nursing workload, and affect the continuity and safety of treatment. Although advanced infusion technologies have been introduced to reduce these events, evidence comparing their performance in clinical practice remains limited. This protocol describes a multicenter, prospective, multiphase study, combining a controlled simulation phase with two observational phases, designed to investigate the occurrence and management of air-in-line alarms during antineoplastic drug administration. CD19 CAR T-cell Escape in Large B-cell Lymphoma: Antigen Density Matters after All.

In this issue of Blood Cancer Discovery, Corona, Gillmor, and colleagues show that quantitative CD19 density measured before chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell infusion stratifies progression-free survival in large B-cell lymphoma, yet low antigen density rarely reflects a genetic lesion at the CD19 locus itself, suggesting that other mechanisms of CD19 downregulation may promote CAR T-cell escape. Moreover, Newsam and colleagues offer one explanation-recurrent del(3p21.31)/RHOA loss that results in decreased CD19 in trans and impairs CAR T-cell efficacy. See related article by Corona, Gil

Potential under-recognition of primary aldosteronism in young adults with hypertension.

The aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) is the primary screening test for primary aldosteronism (PA), but it is strongly influenced by renin activity, which varies with age. Fixed ARR thresholds may therefore under-recognize PA in younger adults. We retrospectively analyzed 14,750 hypertensive patients who underwent saline infusion testing for suspected PA. An ARR of 20 was consistently used as the local reference threshold, but confirmatory testing could proceed despite ARR < 20 when clinical suspicion was high. Baseline plasma renin activity (PRA), aldosterone concentration (ALD), and ARR were

Bridging therapy in pediatric and AYA patients under 25 years with relapsed/refractory B-ALL undergoing anti-CD19 CAR-T therapy: a multicenter retrospective study by the Spanish group GETH-TC.

CAR-T therapy is a powerful treatment for pediatric B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). However, the impact of bridging therapy prior to CAR-T infusion on patient outcomes remains insufficiently explored. In this retrospective study of patients with relapse/refractory B-ALL (N = 103), we compared outcomes across different bridging therapy groups: Low-Intensity Chemotherapy (LIC, N = 50), Immunotherapy (N = 20), or High-Intensity Chemotherapy (HIC, N = 33). At day +28 post-infusion, LIC and Immunotherapy showed significantly higher rates of Complete Remission with negative Minimal Resi

Association and discriminative value of insulin resistance surrogate markers for aortic stiffness in asymptomatic adults.

BACKGROUND: Insulin resistance surrogate markers, including the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, TyG-BMI, and TG/HDL-C ratio, have been associated with aortic stiffness in high-risk populations. Their comparative associations and incremental discrimination in asymptomatic adults remain unclear. We therefore compared these markers and evaluated a simplified model for cfPWV-defined aortic stiffness. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 654 asymptomatic adults aged ≥18 years who underwent routine health examinations at two tertiary medical centers. After exclusions, 457 participants

Beyond conventional treatments: cutting-edge strategies for ascites in cirrhosis.

Ascites is a prevalent complication in cases of decompensated liver cirrhosis, having a considerable effect on the quality of life and prognosis of patients. Current treatment methods of ascites in cirrhosis primarily include conventional diuretics, paracentesis, albumin infusion, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), and liver transplantation. However, these approaches are associated with certain limitations and risks. In recent years, novel therapeutic strategies targeting distinct pathophysiological pathways of ascites have continued to emerge, including sodium-glucose cotra
