Development of Nontechnical Skills Assessment Tool and The Validation Study for Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair.

UNLABELLED: Nontechnical skills, such as situational awareness and decision-making, are essential for safe and efficient surgical performance. Although the Nontechnical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS) framework provides a structured approach, it lacks procedure-specific assessment tools. There remains a significant gap in standardized methods for evaluating and training nontechnical skills in specific surgical procedures. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a novel assessment tool, KUDAS-TAPP (Kurashima Decision-making and Situation awareness - Trans Abdominal Preperitoneal approach), specifically

The Management of OSMF using the Buccal Fat Pad with Collagen Membrane in Fibrotomy Defects.

INTRODUCTION: Owing to limitations of various flap procedures for the management of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), we tried to evaluate the outcome of the buccal fat pad (BFP) with collagen membrane as an alternative. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed the aforementioned technique on eight patients diagnosed with OSF who underwent management using the BFP with a collagen membrane. RESULTS: We observed a significant mean gain in mouth opening of 5.29 ± 2.11 mm and a significant reduction in pain levels by 2.62 ± 1.05. No complication and recurrence were observed till fourmonth followup. CO

Conservative endometrioma surgery: The combined technique versus CO2-laser vaporization only (BLAST: Belgium LAser STudy): Clinical protocol for a multicenter randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The surgical management of endometrioma(s) remains challenging. Although laparoscopic surgery is a well-established treatment of endometrioma(s), caution is required to minimize ovarian damage. Several surgical techniques have been described to treat endometrioma(s): classical cystectomy, ablative techniques, or a combination of both. As cystectomy is strongly associated with a reduction in ovarian reserve, this randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to determine to what extent the two other surgical procedures may affect ovarian reserve by comparing changes in serum anti-Müllerian

Impact of Pre-Operative Occult Bacteremia on Post-Operative Infectious Complications in Patients Undergoing Esophagectomy for Esophageal Cancer.

PURPOSE: Occult bacteremia (OB), defined as blood stream micro-organisms confirmed by reverse transcriptase-quantitative polymerase chain reaction that target 16S or 23S ribosomal RNA, has been shown to increase the incidence of post-operative infections during pancreaticoduodenectomy. However, its impact on other surgical procedures remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pre-operative OB on post-operative surgical site infection (SSI) during esophageal cancer surgery. METHODS: In this prospective observational study, 56 patients scheduled for esophagectomy were included.

Evaluation of change in oxidative stress in urolithiasis patients following complete stone clearance: A prospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Prior studies showed that oxidative stress (OS) is increased in patients with urolithiasis. Urinary 8-hydroxy 2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is a well-established marker of OS, and its levels are elevated in patients with urolithiasis. It is unknown whether this increased OS persists even after stone removal. We aimed to evaluate the change in urinary 8-OHdG levels in patients with urolithiasis following complete stone clearance. METHODS: A prospective pre-post study was conducted at a single center (Institute Ethics Committee approval: NK/5965/MS/029). Patients with urolithiasis und
