Diagnosing Acute Graft-Versus-Host Disease in Children Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation-Comparison of the Modified Glucksberg Criteria Versus the MAGIC Criteria.

Diagnosing acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is challenging due to heterogeneity in interpreting current clinical criteria. Recently, the Mount Sinai Acute GvHD International Consortium (MAGIC) criteria were introduced to improve diagnostic consistency. In a study of 117 pediatric patients undergoing HSCT, the modified Glucksberg and the MAGIC criteria were retrospectively compared. The MAGIC criteria identified significantly more cases of gastrointestinal (GI) aGvHD and increased overall severity, important for guiding

Application of Syndromic Panels for respiratory Tract Infections in Lung Transplantation: A Critical Review on Current Evidence and Future Perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Infections are a common complication among lung transplant recipients (LuTR), particularly in the first year post-transplant, with respiratory tract infections (RTI) being predominant. Syndromic molecular panels have been suggested to reduce morbidity and mortality by providing a diagnosis quickly. However, integrating these panels into clinical practice remains debated. METHODS: An electronic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Embase to identify studies on applying syndromic panels for RTI diagnosis in LuTR. Three reviewers independently screened-extracted data from rele

Reoperation for Recurrence After Groin Hernia Repair in Adolescents: A Nationwide Register-Based Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Although mesh-based repairs are used in adults to reduce the risk of recurrence, their necessity in adolescents remains debated. Nonmesh repairs are often preferred in younger patients to avoid potential long-term complications, but data on recurrence rates in this age group are limited. We aimed to assess the rate of reoperation for recurrence following primary groin hernia repair in adolescents aged 10-19 years. METHODS: This was a register-based cohort study covering three decades (1992-2022), utilizing data from the Danish National Patient Register linked to data from the Dani

Watchful waiting vs. early repair for asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic inguinal hernia - silent hernia, loud debate: a qualitative systematic review.

AIM: More than one-third of inguinal hernias are asymptomatic, and performing surgery in the absence or presence of mild symptoms remains a point of concern for many surgeons. This study aims to evaluate whether watchful waiting (WW) is a viable management strategy for asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic inguinal hernias by comparing its outcomes to early surgical repair. To broaden the scope of existing evidence, we included both recent randomized controlled trials and observational studies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Central, and EMBASE were searched for studies comparing early

Three-Dimensional Preoperative Planning of Corrective Osteotomies for Distal Radius Malunions: A Systematic Review of Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes.

Distal radius malunions (DRMs) are painful and functionally impairing, often necessitating surgical intervention to restore wrist anatomy and function. Traditional corrective osteotomies, which rely on orthogonal radiographs, may overlook complex deformities. This study aims to evaluate the techniques and effectiveness of 3-dimensional (3D)-planned corrective osteotomies, along with their clinical and radiographic outcomes. We conducted a systematic review of literature across PubMed, Ovid, EMBASE, and Web of Science for studies that implemented 3D planning in corrective osteotomies for DRM. W
