When a multivariate normal sample is chosen from a truncated space of one of its components one can no longer make use of the normality assumption for the sample observations or for the estimates derived from them. In this paper, skewness and kurtosis for each component are derived analytically under a broad class of nonrandom sampling. It is shown that the distortions in skewness and kurtosis produced by nonrandomness are negligible, except those for the component with respect to which the selection of sampling regions is based. A prospective study was made of the value of the precordial thump and of cough version in life threatening ventricular arrhythmias. Of about 5000 medical and surgical patients, 68 were treated for persistent ventricular tachycardia and 248 for ventricular fibrillation, 86 of whom had presented outside hospital. An analysis is presented of a study of the Copper-T 200 (CuT 200) intrauterine device at the Barros Luco Hospital in Santiago, Chile. The devices were inserted in 1142 postpartum patients. The expulsion rate was high, 32.1% at 3 months. Of the 372 women who expelled devices, 349 received a replacement CuT 200. The expulsion rate for these reinsertions was 7.7% at 12 months with a continuation rate of 86.4%.

Oral contraceptive steroids (OCS) have been implicated as the cause of a number of instances of hepatic vein thrombosis (Budd-Chiari syndrome). In an earlier study the authors reported on the relative effectiveness of three psychological methods of treating tension headache. This paper reports follow-up data on each procedure and focuses on variables seemingly related to long-term success. Follow-up occurred at 3, 6, and 12 months and involved 1 week of self-report records of headache activity and medication dosage. Behavioral approaches to pain management have been shown to be efficacious in many instances but many of the variables indicating or contraindicating such treatment remain unspecified. The data reported here demonstrated that while patients referred by both Disability and Medical Subspecialties showed improvement in pain report, affect, and feelings of control, those patients referred by Disability improved reliable less, remain hospitalized longer and were reliably less compliant. These data can be understood within an operant conditioning conceptualization of illness behavior.

Thirteen healthy men (25-35 years) with proven fertility were scheduled for long-term treatment (> 12 months) with levo-norgestrel (500 micrograms daily) and testosterone enanthate (200 mg monthly). The volunteers were regularly investigated prior to, during and after treatment. The usefulness of the alcoholic diagnostic subtypes in the DMS II was gauged from the perspective of its descriptive and prognostic meaning. The degree of demographic homogeneity of men within each label, the differences in prognoses on follow-up, the number of men labeled "Other (and Unspecified)" and the relevance of the present system to the previous diagnostic subtypes was evaluated.
