INTRODUCTION: Introduction: Acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations represent a frequent injury among young- and middle-aged adults, often resulting from high-energy trauma such as road traffic accidents and falls. While surgical intervention is standard for high-grade (Rockwood III-VI) injuries, the optimal technique remains debated. This study evaluates the clinical and functional outcomes of the Endobutton loop system in the management of acute AC joint dislocations.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Orthopaedics, Gandhi Medica

INTRODUCTION: trauma accounts for 40% of deaths among young people worldwide, and it is estimated that for every death there are between three and fifty individuals living with trauma-related disabilities. In Latin America, traffic-related injuries are exponentially higher, invariably impacting on the pediatric population.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: this was a retrospective consecutive case series including all femoral fractures related to traffic accidents in pediatric patients up to 16 years of age, treated at a single tertiary trauma referral center in a developing country, from January 2022 to

Patients suffering from traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) constitute a unique patient population in critical care medicine due to the high rate of mortality, irrecoverable neurological damage, and dependence on advanced life support measures. In this report, we present a patient who sustained a non-survivable cervicomedullary injury due to motor vehicle collision who became dependent on maximal life support and subsequently expired from multiple complications 11 months after the initial accident. On neuropathological exam, extensive Wallerian degeneration in the spinal cord despite non-trauma

OBJECTIVES: Acute cervical spine injury is an uncommon but serious sequela of blunt trauma. Patients presenting with multi-trauma to the Emergency Department usually receive CT imaging for cervical spine clearance; however, many of these patients have ongoing pain despite a negative CT and proceed to an MRI. This can entail delays in care, transfer between hospitals, prolonged periods of cervical spine immobilisation, and increased healthcare costs. The aim of the study is to identify the rate of acute cervical spine injury detected on MRI following negative CT and the impact of these findings

BACKGROUND: Traumatic posterior atlantoaxial dislocation (TPAD) with an associated odontoid fracture is exceedingly rare, typically resulting from high-energy trauma such as high-velocity road traffic accidents or falls from height. This report details a previously undescribed case of an old TPAD combined with a Type II odontoid fracture and bilateral locked facets in a patient who remained neurologically intact. We also systematically review the literature on the diagnosis and management of this injury pattern to provide evidence-based guidance for clinical decisions.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 67

Blunt traumatic pericardial rupture is an exceptionally rare condition, often associated with high morbidity and mortality. Isolated pericardial rupture without vascular or cardiac involvement accounts for only 17% of reported cases. We describe a rare case of right-sided pericardial rupture following blunt chest trauma, an unusual presentation since most pericardial tears occur on the left side. A 23-year-old woman involved in a motor vehicle accident sustained multiple injuries, including right hemothorax, bilateral pulmonary contusions, left-sided rib fractures, and a humerus fracture. Alth

Polytrauma represents a critical emergency condition characterized by complex treatment challenges and multiple complications, constituting one of the primary causes of mortality from accidental injuries. Severe polytrauma typically results from high-energy impacts, with traffic accidents, falls from height, and other fall-related injuries being the predominant causes. Without prompt and appropriate intervention, mortality rates range from 20 to 70%. The combination of polytrauma, traumatic diaphragmatic hernia, and pelvic-acetabular fractures complicates clinical management, prolongs treatmen

The placement of C1 lateral mass screws is a common procedure in posterior atlantoaxial fixation, but variations in local anatomy, including the C1 lateral mass and vertebral artery, can complicate screw placement, increasing the risk of complications. This case report presents the use of a C1 translaminar screw as a salvage technique following the failure of a C1 lateral mass screw during the treatment of a type II odontoid fracture. A 16-year-old male involved in a motor vehicle accident was scheduled for posterior atlantoaxial fixation with C1 lateral mass screws and C2 pedicle screws. Howe

Thoracic outlet syndrome is caused by compression of the neurovascular structures as they pass through the thoracic outlet and may present with pain, weakness, numbness, and paresthesias. Neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome is the most common subtype and can be difficult to manage in patients with persistent symptoms despite conservative therapy and surgery. We present the case of a female patient in her 20s with post-traumatic neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome following a motor vehicle accident, who continued to experience persistent pain and neurologic symptoms despite multiple surgical in

INTRODUCTION: Motorcycles are a widely used mode of transportation in Colombia; however, they pose a particular risk of injury to child passengers, mainly due to the heel becoming entangled in the rear tire spokes. METHODS: A series of 45 cases treated at the Hospital Susana Lopez de Valencia in Popayán Colombia between 2020 and 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into three severity levels based on skin, Achilles tendon, and bone involvement. Management included debridement, prophylactic antibiotics, negative pressure therapy, and coverage procedures (reverse sural fa

Concomitant ipsilateral fractures of the clavicle, scapula, and ribs, termed forequarter lateral implosion injury, represent a severe but underrecognized injury pattern resulting from high-energy lateral shoulder trauma. While the surgical indications for isolated chest wall and shoulder girdle injuries are well described, guidance on the integrated management of this combined injury complex remains limited. We describe a reproducible multidisciplinary approach for the concurrent surgical fixation of clavicle, scapula, and rib fractures, illustrated through two cases of forequarter lateral imp

BACKGROUND: Scapular fractures are rare injuries typically resulting from high-energy trauma and often occur in polytrauma patients. Historically managed nonoperatively, recent trends in surgical intervention have evolved, particularly in major trauma centers (MTCs) where expertise and case volume have increased. However, there remains limited literature on the surgical management and long-term outcomes of these injuries.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study reviewed all patients who underwent surgical fixation for scapular fractures over a 10-year period at a single UK MTC. Patient demog

Hallux fractures, particularly those involving the proximal phalanx, can lead to significant functional impairments if not promptly managed. This report introduces a novel, minimally invasive technique for hallux fracture fixation using hypodermic needles. This technique is specifically designed for resource-limited settings such as disasters or emergencies. A 30-year-old female sustained an open proximal phalanx fracture of the left hallux with interphalangeal joint dislocation following a motor vehicle accident. Under local anesthesia in the emergency service settings, fracture reduction and

RATIONALE: Traumatic cardiac rupture with concurrent cerebral herniation represents a critical emergency characterized by an extremely high prehospital mortality rate. Early diagnosis and multidisciplinary intervention are essential for survival. As this is a single-case report, the observations should be interpreted with caution.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman presented in a coma with hemorrhagic shock following a traffic accident. Imaging revealed a massive left hemothorax, multiple rib fractures, and a right subdural hematoma with a 10 mm midline shift.
DIAGNOSIS: Emergency surgery

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral clavicle fractures are rare injuries, particularly when both fractures are non-displaced, accounting for less than 0.5% of all clavicle fractures. These injuries are typically associated with high-energy trauma, such as road traffic accidents or falls from height. Diagnosis may be challenging, as plain radiographs can miss subtle or non-displaced fractures, necessitating advanced imaging, such as computed tomography (CT) for accurate detection.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 21-year-old male who sustained bilateral non-displaced midshaft clavicle fractures follow
