Hepatic angiosarcoma (AS) is a rare tumor with a fatal course. It represents 1-2% of all primary hepatic tumors and it is the most frequent primary mesenchymal tumor of the liver. Social class differences in cancer mortality among New Zealand men aged 15-64 years are examined for the period 1984-7. Age-standardised rates are presented for all cancer deaths, and for 23 specific cancer sites. The strongest social class mortality gradients were found for cancers of the larynx, liver, buccal cavity/pharynx, oesophagus, lung and for soft tissue sarcoma. PURPOSE: A phase II study was undertaken to determine the efficacy of tirapazamine (TPZ) combined with cisplatin (cDDP) in patients with metastatic melanoma.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between June 1994 and November 1995, 48 patients with metastatic melanoma were treated with TPZ (260 mg/m2, administered intravenously over two hours) followed in one-hour by cDDP (75 mg/m2 over one hour) every 21 days. Sixteen patients had received prior chemotherapy, and 13 of these had failed to respond to prior cDDP. None of the patients had symptomatic brain metastasis.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The increasing length of survival of organ transplant recipients necessitates careful attention to the potential neoplastic complications of life-long immunosuppression, which is required for such patients.
