PURPOSE: To define the safety and toxicity of interleukin-4 (IL-4) when administered subcutaneously in patients with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS); to evaluate the effect of IL-4 on immunologic and virologic parameters; and to preliminarily assess the response rate of IL-4 in AIDS-KS.

Orthotopic liver transplantation (THO) is the treatment of choice for a variety of liver diseases. The national experience before 1993 has been scarce. In November 1993 we started our experience in THO at Clínica Las Condes, as part of a multiorgan transplant program (liver, kidney, pancreas). UNLABELLED: Prognosis of hepatoblastoma in children has improved in the last few years particularly because of preoperative chemotherapy and total surgical removal. The aim of this study was to present the evolution of HB therapy at our centre. Since 1966, 44 patients have been treated. The first 20 cases (group I) were treated with chemotherapy alone. The next 19 patients (1975-1989) (group II) underwent preoperative chemotherapy and delayed surgery. After 1990, 5 patients (group III) were treated with protocolized preoperative chemotherapy and accurate surgery (SIOPEL-1).

Thirty two cases of solid tumours in newborns and infants were observed by the authors over a 15 year period. The most common type of tumours were soft tissue tumours (n = 8), neuroblastomas (n = 7), nephroblastomas (n = 5) and germ cell tumours (n = 5). Previous studies from our laboratory have suggested that the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, diclofenac (DCF), is a more potent competitor for T3 binding sites in cytoplasm than for those in the nucleus. The regulation of fatty acid synthase (FAS) expression by sterols in a cultured human hepatoblastoma cell line, Hep G2, was studied. When cells were treated with compactin in a medium containing lipoprotein deficient serum, FAS mRNA level increased 1.6-fold.
