Hepatocyte related cell lines, namely human embryonic hepatocyte cell line (WRL68) and hepatoblastoma cell line (Hep G2), were tested for their ability to support hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication in vitro. A 3-year-old boy underwent a successful combined resection of a hepatoblastoma and its intracaval right atrial extension using a cardiopulmonary bypass. This type of extension is extremely rare in hepatoblastoma. The cardiopulmonary bypass enabled complete resection of the intracardiac mass of the hepatoblastoma. Extramedullary hematopoiesis is a characteristic feature of hepatoblastoma (HB). We investigated 15 HB to characterize intratumoral hematopoietic foci and to find clues to the pathophysiology of their formation. Serum ferritin increases in chronic alcoholism, without clear explanation. We have previously shown that alcohol increases ferritin levels in a human hepatoblastoma cell line (HepG2). Hepatoblastoma is a frequent embryonic tumor found in children. The mechanism of its formation and development remain unknown. The effects of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and/or interferon-gamma on the replication of hepatitis B virus were examined using HB611 cells. These cells were derived from human hepatoblastoma cells, Huh6, by integrating hepatitis B virus DNA, and produce hepatitis B virus continuously.
