We investigated the antitumor effects and tissue distribution of adriamycin (ADR) incorporated into a hydroxyapatite (HAP) bead in a cancer rat model bearing Swarm rat chondrosarcoma. The Porous HAP bead (8.48 mm in diameter, 531 +/- 0.7 mg in weight) was used as a model bone graft. The medical records of 399 patients who underwent hepatic resection between January 1981 and December 1990 were reviewed. Information regarding the results of the hepatic resection in terms of the operative indication, operative procedure, operative morbidity, and mortality was abstracted. We investigated clinical data and histological specimens of 46 patients with a hepatoblastoma (HB) for prognostic criteria. Epidemiological, clinical, biochemical and topographic features of primary hepatic cancer (PHC) were reviewed retrospective and prospectively in this study. This review consisted of 76 patients from 1971 to 1990. Forty nine males and 27 females. The mean age was 66.1 +/- 11.7 years. A girl who had been treated, apparently successfully, with surgery and chemotherapy for a hepatoblastoma, fell ill two years later with what was diagnosed as an AMF M(4). A cell line was established from her peripheral blood. This cell line had epithelial morphology and grew both in suspension culture and as a monolayer. A total of 6,457 autopsy protocols were reviewed to identify 70 women who died of ovarian cancer. 1. Epithelial tumors were the most common tumor (74%). Twenty% were germ cell tumors. There were two cases each of sarcoma and stromal cell tumors. 2. The patients with germ cell tumors were younger than those with epithelial tumors. The duration of the epithelial tumor disease was longer than that of germ cell tumor. 3. The most common mechanism of death was carcinomatosis (69%). Eight of 70 patients (11%) had respiratory failure. One case of subacute cor pulmonale was due to tumor embolization.

We describe the production and characterization of a novel monoclonal antibody (MAb) that recognizes a human endothelial cell antigen expressed mainly in inflamed and malignant disease states. We have used immunohistochemistry to determine the spectrum of reactivity of this MAb compared with that of a MAb to factor VIII-related antigen (MAb FVIII). A 49-year-old female was complaining of persistent cough. CT-scan revealed abscess in the right hepatic lobe. Diagnostic percutaneous trans-hepatic abscessography disclosed hepatobronchial fistula, and biopsy of the lesion revealed intrahepatic bile duct carcinoma. She underwent right hepatic lobectomy, right pulmonary lower lobectomy and partial resection of the diaphragm, with removal of the fistulous tract. After operation, cough disappeared, but she died of intraabdominal hemorrhage, 40 days after operation.

We examined 18 patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (membranous obstruction of the hepatic IVC). IVC obstruction was detected by sonography in 17 cases (94%).
