A 2-month-old Japanese girl exhibited tonic seizure, agenesis of the corpus callosum, lacunar chorioretinopathy, vertebral anomalies, electroencephalographic abnormalities and a malignant tumor. Autopsy revealed a hepatoblastoma and severe brain malformations consisting of callosal agenesis, arhinencephaly, marked polymicrogyria and optic nerve anomalies. The clinical features of 77 patients with primary liver cell carcinoma seen over a nine-year period were examined. Eighty per cent of the patients had underlying cirrhosis, of alcoholic origin in most cases. Unfavorable prognosis for children with malignant liver tumors, is caused not only because of late diagnosis in this children, but because of imperfet methods of treatment.
