Polyamine (PA) and ATP concentrations have been measured in the S180 sarcoma damaged by endotoxin (1) 4 hours after administration, coinciding with the onset of hemorrhage, (2) at 8 hours, and (3) at 24 hours, preceeding overt necrosis. The putrescine (PU) content increased promptly, the spermidine (SPD) level dropped by 30% between 8 and 24 hours, while the spermine (SPM) concentration remained unchanged. An autopsy case of hepatocellular carcinoma combined with hepatic sarcoma was presented. There were three main tumor nodes in the liver. They showed necrosis due to therapeutic embolization of the hepatic artery. Histologically, one of the three was a hepatocellular carcinoma, and the other two were of spindle cell sarcomas. Extrahepatic metastases all showed characteristics of sarcoma. In the present case report, some problems concerning hepatic sarcoma and sarcomatous representation of hepatocellular carcinoma were proposed in reviewing the literatures.

A nationwide survey of hepatic angiosarcoma (HAS) in the United States during the years 1964 through 1974 identified 168 cases. Hepatoblastoma was diagnosed in a 12 month old boy presenting with hepatomegaly and isosexual precocious puberty. Preoperative levels of both alpha-1-fetoprotein (AFP) and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) were highly elevated. The tumor was removed by hepatic trisegmentectomy. A population of 10,173 men, employed in 37 plants, was identified as having worked for at least one year in jobs involving probable exposure to vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) prior to January 1, 1973. A hepatoblastoma was found in a 36 week stillborn infant. The tumour compressed the inferior vena cava and was the cause of hydrops foetalis. There was also agenesis of the gall bladder. Amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein levels at 15 weeks were normal and did not indicate the presence of the tumour.

A review of epidemiologic studies of workers exposed to vinyl chloride (VC) was conducted. In ten boys and five girls with hepatoma, evaluations were made as to the sex, age, pathologic findings, operation and prognoses. Ages at the time of operation ranged from 1 month to 12 years. In twelve, the tumors were successfully removed; 4 underwent left lateral segmentectomy, 4 right hepatic lobectomy and 4 trisegmentectomy. At least at the time of completion of this paper, eight of these 12 patients (66%) were alive including one patient with pulmonary metastases.
