Gastrin was administered several times to mice with transplantable hepatoma, sarcomas, colon adenocarcinoma and adenocarcinoma of small intestine. Injections of gastrin stimulated the growth of colon adenocarcinoma in mice but not of the other tumors tested. Dependence upon gastro-intestinal hormones of "spontaneous" carcinogenesis in gastro-intestinal tract and the growth of many gastro-intestinal pancreatic and liver tumors is suggested. This hormone dependence could be used for the treatment and prophylaxis of some tumors of the gastro-intestinal tract.

This paper deals with a three-year-old male patient with sexual precocity due to a gonadotropin-producing hepatoma. Maximum levels of serum-gonadotropins were 340 muULH/ml, 430 muUHCG/ml, but only 1.4 muUFSH/ml. The level of plasma testosterone was 985 ng/dl, and of plasma delta 4-androstenedione 109 ng/dl. We present the case of a 77-year-old woman in whom extensive scarring alopecia developed that was proved histologically to be due to angiosarcoma. The annual occurrence of angiosarcoma of the liver (ASL) in Britain from 1963 to 1977 was studied, including clinical and occupational details for those cases agreed as ASL by a panel of histopathologists. Thirty-five cases (28 men, six women, and one infant girl) were agreed as ASL. In this study, eel from a locality where the bacterium Vibrio anguillarim was common were transferred to copper-contaminated freshwater and brackish water (10%) under laboratory conditions. Thirteen healthy men (25-35 years) with proven fertility were scheduled for long-term treatment (> 12 months) with levo-norgestrel (500 micrograms daily) and testosterone enanthate (200 mg monthly). Two cases of liver cell carcinoma in young women ingesting oral contraceptives have been found within a few months in the county of Vejle, Denmark. Including these two patients 22 cases of liver cell carcinoma in young women have been published since 1973, 19 of whom have used oral contraception. The possible effects of oral contraceptives in inducing liver tumors is discussed, and it is pointed out that no statistical proof of such an effect exists at present.
