Results of treatment for osteosarcoma of the extremity have been poor with metastases usually causing death within 2 years following diagnosis. Because of the great risk of development of metastases, 20 patients have received adjuvant chemotherapy with Adriamycin, cyclophosphamide and high-dose methotrexate-leucovorin rescue for up to 12 months following amputation for osteosarcoma. Sixteen of these patients are surviving; 11 are free of evident tumor from 6 to 34 months following amputation. The effect of chronic administration of 2,2'-dihydroxy-di-n-propylnitrosamine (DHPN) was studied in randombred guinea pigs. DHPN, dissolved in olive oil, was injected sc into 40 animals at a dose of 250 mg/kg body weight/week for 30 weeks, and the animals were observed until their death or termination of the experiment at the end of 40 weeks. Identification particulars were obtained for over 7000 men who were at some time between 1940 and 1974 exposed to vinyl chloride monomer in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride. Approximately 99% of these men have been traced and their mortality experience studied. The overall standardised mortality ratio, 75-4, shows a significant reduction compared with the national rates. Single, sublethal subcutaneous doses of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OH-DA) were given to young adult male and female Marsh mice. The ability of 6/8 males to sire 15 or more days later was not abolished. Spleen cells from WKA rats immunized with allogeneic Donryu tumor (AH66), when examined by the Winn test, inhibited lethal growth of admixed antigenically unrelated syngeneic tumor (KMT-17) only when a mixture of spleen cells and tumor cells was injected into pre-irradiated recipients. In hepatic tumors seen in children, treatment and prognosis differ from tumor to tumor and thus accurate determination of their extent and characteristics is important. Evaluation by gray scale ultrasonography, radionuclide imaging and angiography has produced definable characteristics for the various tumor types and often allows distinction from other intrahepatic processes. In addition, chemotherapeutic treatment of initially unresectable malignant hepatic tumors can be followed by nuclear imaging, ultrasound and angiography to determine therapeutic response.

The ethanolic extract of rat skin contains epidermal G1- and G2-chalones which having been added to cell suspension of transplantable squamous-cell cornified carcinoma of mice cervix, inhibits its growth in recipients by 72,6 per cent. The same extract failed to inhibit the growth of transplantable mouse tumours of other histogenesis (hepatoma 22a, leukemia L-1210 and sarcoma 180). When added to cell suspension of transplantable carcinoma of mouse skin which had been anaplized during a long period of transplantation (over 10 years) this extract inhibits its growth by 39,2 per cent only.

Iv Baker's antifol (BAF) (250 mg/m2/day X 3 consecutive days) was administered to 34 patients with metastatic sarcoma. We report new operative approaches to the treatment of hepatic vein occlusion due to malignant tumors in the liver and their results in four patients.
