The objective of this research was to investigate the application value of deep learning-based computed tomography (CT) images in the diagnosis of liver tumors. Fifty-eight patients with liver tumors were selected, and their CT images were segmented using a convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm. The segmentation results were quantitatively evaluated using the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), precision, and recall. All the patients were examined and diagnosed by CT enhanced delayed scan technique, and the CT scan results were compared with the pathological findings. The results showed

Cisplatin (DDP) is a potent and widely applied chemotherapeutic agent. However, its clinical efficacy for the treatment of liver cancer is limited by adverse effects and the development of resistance. Combinatorial therapy may alleviate these issues. Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) is a first-generation derivative of artemisinin. The effects of DDP on liver cancer when applied in combination with DHA have not previously been studied. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of DHA combined with DDP on HepG2 cells and their potential underlying molecular mechanisms. HepG2 cells we

Background: Gankyrin, a member of the 26S proteasome, is an overexpressed oncoprotein in hepatoblastoma (HBL) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Cjoc42 was the first small molecule inhibitor of Gankyrin developed; however, the IC50 values of >50 μM made them unattractive for clinical use. Second-generation inhibitors demonstrate a stronger affinity toward Gankyrin and increased cytotoxicity. The aim of this study was to characterize the in vitro effects of three cjoc42 derivatives. Methods: Experiments were performed on the HepG2 (HBL) and Hep3B (pediatric HCC) cell lines. We evaluated the ex

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS, OMIM 130650) is a congenital imprinting condition with a heterogenous clinical presentation of overgrowth and an increased childhood cancer risk (mainly nephroblastoma, hepatoblastoma or neuroblastoma). Due to the varying clinical presentation encompassing classical, clinical BWS without a molecular diagnosis and BWS-related phenotypes with an 11p15.5 molecular anomaly, the syndromic entity was extended to the Beckwith-Wiedemann spectrum (BWSp). The tumor risk of up to 30% depends on the molecular subtype of BWSp with causative genetic or epigenetic alteration

BACKGROUND: Hepatoblastoma (HB) requires surgical resection for cure, but only 20-30% of patients have resectable disease at diagnosis. Patients who undergo partial hepatectomy at diagnosis have historically received 4-6 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy; however, those with 100% well-differentiated fetal histology (WDF) have been observed to have excellent outcomes when treated with surgery alone.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients on the Children's Oncology Group non randomized, multicenter phase III study, AHEP0731, were stratified based on Evan's stage, tumor histology, and serum alpha-fetoprot

Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary liver tumor in childhood. However, cases involving age >5 years are extremely rare. Invasion of the inferior vena cava and right atrium in hepatoblastoma places the patient in a high-risk group, and due to the rarity of such presentation, the preferred surgical approach is not clear. We present the perioperative anesthetic management of hepatoblastoma in an eight-year-old child with right atrial invasion at diagnosis, with no regression in size of the tumor after chemotherapy, treated subsequently with combined cardiac and liver surgery. Due to the pos

INTRODUCTION: Hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common paediatric liver tumour, and epigenetic aberrations may be important in HB development. Recently, the Children's Hepatic Tumors International Collaboration-Hepatoblastoma Stratification (CHIC-HS) developed risk stratification based on clinicopathological factors. This study aimed to construct a more accurate model by integrating CHIC-HS with molecular factors based on DNA methylation.
METHODS: HB tumour specimens (N = 132) from patients treated with the Japanese Pediatric Liver Tumors Group-2 protocol were collected and subjected to methyla

MiRNA affects the proliferation, migration and cycle of tumor cells. However, the mechanism of regulating Notch pathway expression and inhibiting tumor cell proliferation in hepatoblastoma is not clear, we need to further explore. In this study, the dact2 gene can inhibit liver fibrosis. In this experiment, we used in vitro culture of hepatoblastoma cells and flow cytometry to detect the effect of miRNA-135a on the tumor cell cycle. The expression of miRNA-135a was detected by real-time PCR in 6 tumor samples and normal controls to observe and analyze the expression level of the important sign

This study reports a case of hepatoblastoma with onset at 30-weeks' gestation and rapid growth rate. The postnatal enhanced CT confirmed an intrahepatic mass with a size of 8.5 cm × 6.6 cm and a clear boundary accompanied by uneven enhancement, displacement, and narrow lumen of the hepatic vein due to compression. The alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) at birth was 1,002,632 ng/ml (normal level 48,406 [±34,718] ng/ml). A diagnosis of congenital hepatoblastoma was established based on the imaging and laboratory outcomes. The infant received chemotherapy of Cisplatin-5 fluorouracil-Vincristine (C5V) on the

Sialoblastoma (SBL) is an infrequent embryonal malignant tumor originating from the salivary gland, resembling primitive salivary gland anlage, whereas hepatoblastoma (HB) is the most common pediatric liver malignancy. The simultaneous occurrence of both tumors is extremely rare. Here we reported a case of a 6-month-old infant diagnosed with synchronous SBL and HB. The patient received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgical resection. Fresh tissues of both tumors were collected before and after chemotherapy, which were further profiled by whole exome sequencing (WES) and single-cell RNA

BACKGROUND: Primary hepatic malignancies account for 0.5-2% of all solid tumours in childhood. Hepatoblastoma, a rare embryonic tumour in the general population, represents the most frequent primary hepatic malignancy in the paediatric age group, with an incidence of one new case per million under 15 years of age, median age at diagnosis being 1 year. Aberrant activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin signalling pathway is likely to result in tumorigenesis of hepatoblastoma. The nuclear and intra-cytoplasmic accumulations of beta-catenin correlate with the likely prognosis of the disease. Nuclear exp

Bioactive peptides with various health benefits have been reported from rice protein hydrolysates. We previously showed that rice-derived peptides (RP) increased intracellular glutathione levels and induced the expression of γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase, which is regulated by nuclear transcription factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is an important Nrf2 downstream antioxidant enzyme that protects against oxidative stress. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of RP on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress in human hepatoblastoma cel
