A study was made of adenylic mononucleotides, the process of oxydative phosphorylation and ATP-ase activity of hepatic mitochondria of rats with transplantable sarcoma 45 and Walker carcinosarcoma at various stages of tumour growtli. A reduction of the ATP levels observed in the hepatic mitochondria of tumour-bearing rats was caused, on the one hand, by suppression of its formation as a result of a partial uncoupling of the oxidative phosphorylation, and on the other hand - by intensification of its decomposition as a result of increased ATP-ase activity.

Distribution of a label was studied in nuclear fraction and in tissues of rats with transplanted sarcoma 45 within a day after an administration of immune and nonimmune 131I-gamma-globulins. Four patients with primary reticulum-cell sarcoma of the cervix were described. One patient was treated with radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy. The pelvic lymph nodes contained metastatic cancer and the patient died shortly after disseminating disease. The incidence of malignant tumors of the lung and bronchus and of cytologically confirmed primary malignant tumor of the liver was analyzed for a 4-yr period in a city with several factories, including a PVC industry. Angiosarcoma of the liver has recently been publicized because of its association with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) polymerization workers. Four cases of this rare tumor have been observed at the Marshfield Clinic within a 29-month period. There are no factories that manufacture PVC products in the immediate area, nor were any of the victims ever involved in such manufacturing work. Thus, it is possible that other factors may be related to this cluster of the disease.
